Specialist Clinical Coder

Responsibilities

  • Provide an efficient and high-quality clinical coding service by accurate and timely coding of complex case-mix inpatient spells for all Trust specialties.
  • Act as expert clinical coder, liaising with clinicians and specialty leads for queries related to source documentation and to validate coding where additional expertise is required to maximize income.
  • Abstract highly complex clinical information from Trust Millennium EPR, BadgerNet system and translate into accurate and complete ICD-10 and OPCS codes, adhering to national coding standards and mandatory monthly timescales.
  • Demonstrate a high understanding of national coding standards and communicate complex rules, conventions and key terms to clinicians and divisional managers.
  • Independently organise personal workload, ensuring all relevant admitted care episodes are coded within monthly deadlines in preparation for financial assessment and external submission.
  • Achieve Data Security & Protection Toolkit mandatory coding accuracy marks in clinical coding audits.
  • Validate complex clinical data and procedures with clinicians to assure depth of coding for accurate payment.

Job Package

£41,957 to £50,387 a year, inc HCAS, plus £3,000 pa Recruitment and Retention premia.

Two WTE specialist clinical coders are required. Successful applicants will work fully remotely and attend one day, every 3 months, onsite for team meetings or other events as designated by senior digital leadership.

Person Specification

  • Experience of coding a wide variety of specialties in an acute Trust setting.
  • Regular attendance of various coding courses.
  • Mentoring less experienced staff.
