Overview
Fixed term appointment for a GP in the new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) co‑located within the Emergency Departments at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells hospitals. Candidates must be registered as a GP on the GMC register.
Responsibilities
- Provide high‑standard care to patients under your clinical responsibility, including those referred to you and your team.
- Participate in clinical and service development activities to ensure high standard of care across the Trust.
- Work closely with medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside your specialty, to deliver high‑quality health care.
- Take an active role in the clinical governance of your specialty, attending and participating in trust‑wide governance meetings.
- Contribute to the Directorate Audit programme, coordinating audit activities and implementing change.
- Take responsibility for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and supervision of junior staff.
- Assume responsibility for the management of junior medical staff, supporting their professional development.
- Ensure delegated clinical tasks for trainees are within their level of competence and knowledge.
- Comply with the General Medical Council’s published guidance on Good Medical Practice and duties of a doctor.
- Take personal responsibility for risk management, reviewing practice and learning from mistakes.
- Share in the on‑call rota, providing cover for colleagues during annual and study leave and other absences where clinically safe.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to all patient‑care complaints, aiding the Trust’s obligation to reply within specified time frames.
- Develop and maintain effective working relations with health and social care agencies and patient representatives.
- Undertake annual appraisal leading to a personal development plan, collecting evidence for GMC revalidation.
- Complete an annual job plan review as outlined in the Trust Guide to Job Planning.
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others, adhering to Trust IRMER regulations.
- Participate in developing clinical management protocols shared with the community and other consultants.
- Involve in the management and future development of the Emergency Medicine service.
Qualifications
- Registered GP on the GMC register.
- Experience working autonomously as a general practitioner.
- Competence in interpreting chest radiographs and ECGs.
- Willingness to work closely with ED colleagues and provide care for minor presentations.
- Ability to use urgent investigations (blood tests, imaging, ECGs) to assess patients and initiate management when required.
