JR PAT Testing is growing rapidly across the UK. We are looking for experienced PAT Engineers who have the necessary equipment and insurance in place. If you are already self‑employed or considering becoming self‑employed, we would like to hear from you.
Our onboarding process starts with a friendly conversation. All our engineers are required to have their own insurance and to keep their equipment calibrated at least once a year. In return, we provide an engineer handbook, a contract for services, branded clothing, labels, and technical support.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Employment type: Self‑employed. Engineers can be from any background.
- Education: City & Guilds 2377 or equivalent is required.
- Experience: Proven competence in line with the City & Guilds 2377 is the most pertinent.
- Location: Northampton and commutable areas. Engineers can travel nationally as needed.
- Transport: Applicants must have reliable transport or means to get to work.
Responsibilities
As a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) engineer, no two days are the same. You will travel to a variety of locations – hospitals, retail outlets, offices – carrying your full range of tools and testers. Your tasks include:
- Using test instruments to assess electrical items for safety and recommend repair or replacement when necessary.
- Informing users of results and explaining why certain appliances may be unsafe.
- Recording findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or electronic system.
- Filling out additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists.
- Maintaining organisation and accurate, efficient test completion across all sites.
This role demands skill, experience, and patience but rewards with good variety, physical and mental engagement, and opportunities for advancement.
