This role is based within Esh-Stantec which is a joint venture between Esh Construction and sustainable design and engineering firm, Stantec. Esh-Stantec works in partnership with Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) as a Living Water Enterprise supply partner and provides an end-to-end solution for water and wastewater capital infrastructure projects.

About the role

We are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join a large and friendly team, overseeing the commercial management of contracts within the Water Industry. The role involves ensuring accurate measurement, valuation, and effective cash flow management across assigned projects. The successful candidate will support project delivery by maintaining financial control and contractual compliance.

What we will expect from you

The candidate shall be able to support Senior QS / MQS in commercial delivery, ensuring compliance with contract and company procedures by:

  • Having a thorough understanding of assigned projects to drive cost control/value engineering.
  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders to maximise the income from the works.
  • Carrying out the following duties, including but not limited to:
    • Measurement & Valuation – Measure works on site and from drawings; prepare interim valuations and final accounts; ensure accurate and timely valuation of works.
    • Cost Control & Reporting – Assist in monitoring project costs and budgets; produce cost value reconciliations (CVRs) and subcontract liability reports; support forecast preparation and cost tracking.
    • Contract Administration – Administer subcontracts in accordance with contract conditions (e.g. NEC); support management of variations/compensation events, dayworks and change records; assist in issuing and managing contractual notices.
    • Subcontractor Management – Support procurement of subcontractors; assess and process subcontractor applications for payment; assist with payment notices and final account agreement.
    • Project Support – Work closely with site managers and delivery teams; monitor progress and highlight commercial impacts on cost and margin; contribute to achieving project financial targets.
    • Change & Variation Management – Ensure variations are captured, valued, and recorded; monitor provisional sums and expenditure; maintain supporting documentation for audit and recovery.
    • Record Keeping & Compliance – Maintain accurate and up-to-date commercial records; ensure compliance with company procedures and reporting timelines; support audit requirements and commercial governance.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified or equivalent.
  • 5 years’ experience and a proven track record in the commercial environment.
  • Competent in civil engineering construction processes and procedures.

Attributes & Skills

  • Experience working in a Quantity Surveyor role within construction.
  • Understanding of contract conditions (e.g. NEC, JCT).
  • Experience in measurement, valuation, and subcontract management.
  • Experience in infrastructure / water sector desirable.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
