JOB DESCRIPTION
You will be accountable for providing and establishing a common approach with aligned goals for excellence in all aspects of commissioning and testing. To manage and organise individuals or a team on projects in support of the company’s strategic commissioning goals and to meet quality, cost, resource, programme and acceptance criteria while ensuring the highest standards in health, safety, wellbeing and environment during commissioning activities.
Responsibilities
- To deliver the execution of works in line with the commissioning schedules.
- To liaise between the Site Construction team and the Client as required regarding commissioning.
- To supervise and provide guidance to subcontractors and vendors that provide commissioning services to the project.
- Ensure documents produced by vendors and tests executed are in accordance with the project.
- To advise on any restrictions that will be applicable when working.
- To supervise, witness & record the safe pre‑commissioning/commissioning of the plant in accordance with project requirements and approved test procedures.
- To aid the Permit Office function as required.
- To ensure that up‑to‑date procedures, standards, specifications, design guides, manuals etc. required for effective testing are available and followed.
- To participate in the design process (e.g., Hazard and Operability Studies, design assessment etc.) to assist design teams in producing safe and operable designs.
- Coordinate with construction to provide a smooth transition to commissioning.
- Manage and co‑ordinate all parties involved in the execution of commissioning tests to ensure compliance with the agreed commissioning plan.
- Work with the client’s engineers as required to deliver outputs and handover.
- Produce reports detailing scheduled tests and inspections as applicable.
- Support your manager and the staff under your control.
- Maintain a good working relationship with the client and associated personnel.
- Manage and control the works according to agreed programmes.
- Be conversant with drawings, specifications and information for the works.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Have very good communication skills.
- Able to chair meetings and direct the work to meet the programme.
- A comprehensive understanding of quality, HSAWA, CDM, risk assessments, safety systems and SSoW.
- Experience of commissioning on large‑scale projects.
- Strong people‑management skills and process experience.
- Experience of commissioning electrical, mechanical or EC&I systems.
- Good experience of managing and working with contractors.
- Have worked in a technical environment with responsibility for the commissioning and operational performance of plant and equipment.
- Able to engage within project teams to influence strategic outcomes.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- To have worked in the same sector or industry as the role.
- Experience of Early Contractor Involvement models and NEC forms of contract.
- Knowledge of industry regulations for design and construction.
- Knowledge of products and construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards.
- Experience in involvement of a major infrastructure project, ideally from design through to handover.
Essential Qualifications
- Willing and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role and site.
Desirable Qualifications
- Membership of an appropriate professional institute as an incorporated engineer or equivalent with equivalent academic qualifications.
