JR PAT Testing is an expanding PAT and Compliance Company currently looking for engineers to join our team in Woodside Park. We offer self‑employed positions with flexible hours, allowing interested individuals to work either part‑time or full‑time.
Although we understand that some may travel further afield, we require that all applicants have a reasonable commuting distance of Woodside Park or closer.
This role offers potential earnings on a pro‑rata basis depending on the rate per appliance, the number of tests and job dynamics. Our jobs range from one‑day projects to long‑term contracts, allowing us to discuss all details and determine what works best for you.
To apply, you must have your transport or means to get to work and equipment, hold a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, be reliable and honest, as well as have a ‘can‑do’ attitude. All necessary equipment, including testing instruments, measuring devices, and additional tools, must be kept up‑to‑date, in good working order, and meet relevant regulations.
Responsibilities
As a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) engineer, you will:
- Pack up all necessary tools and equipment – including testers and record books – into the van before setting off.
- Perform testing on appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers.
- Use various test instruments designed to check whether electrical items are safe for continued use or need to be replaced or repaired.
- Inform users of the results and explain why certain appliances may be unfit for use.
- Record findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or onto an electronic system and provide employers with a copy.
- Fill out additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists.
- Stay organised and ensure all tests are completed accurately and efficiently.
Qualifications
- Employment Type: Self‑employed engineers from any background.
- Education Level: City & Guilds 2377 or equivalent.
- Months Experience: Proven competence in line with the C&G.
- Job Location: Woodside Park & commutable areas.
- How Close To Job Do You Need To Live? Reasonable commuting distance or closer; engineers can travel national.

A Typical Day of a PAT Engineer
As a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) engineer, no two days are the same. From hospitals to retail outlets, you’ll find yourself in a variety of locations and environments.
Once on site, you’ll test all appliances, inform users of results, record findings and provide a copy to employers. Throughout the day, you’ll be constantly on the move from one location to another – either alone or part of a team – so it’s important to stay organised and make sure that all tests are completed accurately and efficiently.
It takes skill, experience, and patience to be successful in this role but the rewards are great. As a PAT testing engineer, you’ll help keep workplaces safe and develop your own knowledge and expertise.
