Job Description:

JR PAT Testing – PAT Engineer (Self‑Employed)

JR PAT Testing is growing rapidly across the UK and we are looking for experienced PAT Engineers who already have equipment and insurance in place. If you are self‑employed or considering becoming self‑employed, we would love to hear from you.

Our onboarding process starts with a friendly conversation. All our engineers are required to own their own insurance, have their equipment calibrated at least once a year, and to be equipped with the necessary instruments. In return, we provide an engineer handbook, a contract for services, branded clothing, labels and technical support.

Job Details and Requirements

  • Employment Type: Self‑employed
  • Education Level: City & Guilds 2377 or equivalent is required.
  • Relevant Experience: Proven competence in line with the City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification.
  • Job Location: West Acton (commutable areas)
  • Travel: Reasonable commuting distance to West Acton; engineers may travel nationally.
  • Compensation: Discussed on a per‑job basis; wages are pro‑rated according to rate per appliance, number of tests, and job dynamics.

Job Responsibilities

As a PAT Engineer you will travel to a variety of sites – from hospitals to retail outlets – to test electrical appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers. You will use test instruments to verify appliances meet safety standards and will advise users on the results. You will record findings in a dedicated test report book or electronic system and provide employers with a copy of the report, completion certificates and checklists.

Throughout the day you will move from one location to another, whether alone or as part of a team, ensuring that all tests are completed accurately and efficiently. You must maintain all equipment in good working order, keeping testing instruments, measuring devices and additional tools up to date and compliant with regulations.

Typical Day

Each day begins by packing tools and equipment into your van for the first job. On site you perform PAT testing, inform staff of findings, record results, and submit final reports. Between appointments you will stay organized, manage paperwork, and travel to the next location. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a “can‑do” attitude.

If you have the right experience, reliable transport, and a city & guilds qualification, this role offers flexible part‑time or full‑time hours and the opportunity to earn based on the work completed.
