Building Technical Officer – Permanent

Working hours: 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.

Location: Harvey Road (NG8 3BB). The postholder will be expected to travel to Loxley House (NG2 3NG) and other work sites as required.

Salary: Grade G – starting at £36,363 (Level one) rising to £39,152 (Level four).

About the Role

This position is part of the Asset team within Nottingham City Council Housing Services. The Building Technical Officer plays a key part in improving residents’ homes by addressing damp, mould and disrepair, ensuring safe, healthy living environments. Responsibilities include overseeing contractor performance, carrying out inspections, monitoring quality and progress, and ensuring works are delivered on time, within budget and to the required standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review contractor performance and site activity; conduct inspections and monitoring.
  • Resolve issues quickly, including customer concerns, access challenges and tenant welfare matters.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, health and safety requirements and Council standards.
  • Maintain accurate project records and support contract management and continuous service improvement.

About You

  1. Experience of undertaking property surveys, identifying defects, writing reports and recommending remedial action.
  2. Thorough knowledge of building construction methods and maintenance principles.
  3. Proficiency in computers, particularly Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  4. Ability to monitor and oversee contractors and subcontractors through all stages of site preparation, execution, monitoring, completion and handover.
  5. Ability to conduct onsite inspections and surveying measurements to ensure works meet required standards and scope.
  6. Driving licence and access to a vehicle.
