To lead and manage the day‑to‑day operations of a children’s residential home supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), ensuring high‑quality care in line with Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards, safeguarding legislation, and Ofsted requirements.
The Registered Manager will create a safe, nurturing, trauma‑informed environment that promotes stability, positive outcomes, and emotional wellbeing for up to 3 children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Provide strong, effective leadership to the residential team.
- Develop a positive culture focused on safeguarding, therapeutic care, and child‑centred practice.
- Ensure the home operates in compliance with:
- Children’s Homes Regulations 2015
- Quality Standards
- Ofsted requirements
- Safeguarding legislation
- Company policies and procedures
- Promote trauma‑informed and therapeutic approaches within the home.
- Lead by example and maintain professional boundaries at all times.
- Manage staffing rotas to ensure safe staffing levels and continuity of care.
- Conduct staff supervision, appraisals, probation reviews, and performance management.
- Support recruitment, induction, and retention of high‑quality staff.
Care & Safeguarding
- Ensure all children receive high‑quality, individualised care.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
- Ensure care plans, risk assessments, behaviour support plans, and placement plans are implemented and reviewed.
- Promote positive behaviour support strategies and restorative practice.
- Ensure incidents, restraints, safeguarding concerns, and complaints are managed appropriately and recorded accurately.
- Work closely with external professionals including:
- Social Workers
- CAMHS
- Schools
- Ofsted
- Therapists
- Families and advocates
- Promote education, health, independence, and emotional wellbeing outcomes.
Operational Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance documentation is up to date.
- Monitor budgets, resources, and expenditure effectively.
- Ensure the home environment is safe, homely, and well maintained.
- Complete audits, monthly monitoring, and quality assurance processes.
- Prepare for and manage Ofsted inspections.
- Ensure all staff training is compliant and up to date.
- Participate in on‑call duties as required.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people.
- Encourage participation in decision‑making and care planning.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Support young people to develop life skills, resilience, and independence.
- Celebrate achievements and encourage aspirations.
Person Specification
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards).
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a management role within children’s residential care.
- Experience supporting children with EBD and complex behaviours.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Children’s Homes Regulations
- Quality Standards
- Safeguarding procedures
- Ofsted frameworks
- Ability to lead and motivate teams effectively.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Experience in safeguarding and risk management.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience in trauma‑informed practice.
- Experience of achieving “Good” or “Outstanding” Ofsted outcomes.
- Knowledge of therapeutic models and attachment‑based approaches.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
- Strong leadership and decision‑making skills.
- Resilience and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent report writing and IT skills.
- Problem‑solving and conflict resolution.
- Ability to build positive professional relationships.
