Summary

We are looking for a highly visible, hands‑on Assistant Branch Manager to support the leadership of a multi‑function logistics operation based at London Gateway, Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious logistics professional who is ready to step up within a fast‑paced, multi‑functional environment and would suit someone with experience across warehousing, transport and freight, together with a sound understanding of import/export flows, customer requirements, commercial drivers and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Branch Manager, you will help lead day‑to‑day performance across warehouse, transport and freight activity, ensuring the operation remains safe, efficient and customer‑focused.
  • Provide visible, floor‑led leadership across warehousing, transport and logistics teams, promoting high standards of engagement, communication and accountability.
  • Support and develop managers, supervisors and operational teams to deliver service, productivity and quality targets across a busy multi‑function site.
  • Drive KPI performance across warehouse, transport and freight operations, ensuring service levels, labour efficiency and operational standards are consistently achieved.
  • Maintain a strong focus on health & safety, compliance and best practice across all areas of the operation.
  • Work closely with customers, internal stakeholders and operational teams to deliver excellent service and respond quickly to changing business needs.
  • Support effective labour planning, shift performance and resource allocation across warehouse and transport functions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, with particular focus on freight flow, groupage activity, WMS‑led processes and operational efficiency.
  • Support commercial and financial performance by understanding customer agreements, cost drivers, rate structures and branch profitability.
  • Assist the Branch Manager in shaping operational strategy and building a high‑performing, hands‑on culture across the site.

Experience

  • Experience in a logistics, warehousing or transport leadership role within a fast‑paced operational environment.
  • A broad operational background spanning warehousing, transport and freight, ideally within a multi‑function, 3PL setting.
  • A hands‑on leadership style with the confidence to be visible on the floor, support teams directly and drive performance through people.
  • Good knowledge of transport, freight and warehouse operations, including import/export flows and customer service expectations.
  • Experience using WMS systems and performance data to manage productivity, service and operational control.
  • Strong communication, decision‑making and problem‑solving skills, with the commercial acumen to understand how operational performance impacts profitability.
  • This role is likely to suit someone currently operating at Logistics Manager or Operations Manager level who is ready to step into a broader leadership position.

Eligibility

All applicants must have an unrestricted right to work in the UK, as the client will not support visa sponsorship for this role.
