Field Operations Technician – Role Profile

Role Purpose

The role delivers hands‑on assistance across central facilities and remote environments such as farms, lakes, pumping stations, and water‑treatment works. It contributes to site assessments, equipment checks, sampling, testing, data collection, and routine maintenance, while also preparing structured reports and supporting technical governance activities led by the CTO.

Core Responsibilities

Operational and Technical Support

  • Assist the CTO with day‑to‑day technical tasks, fieldwork planning, and operational follow‑up.
  • Carry out routine inspections, basic maintenance, and equipment checks across central and remote sites.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities under the direction of senior technical staff.
  • Maintain accurate logs of equipment condition, site observations, and maintenance actions.

Remote Site Activities

  • Travel to farms, lakes, and water‑treatment works to perform checks on pumps, monitoring stations, dosing systems, aeration equipment, and other remote assets.
  • Ensure remote locations remain safe, tidy, and compliant with operational, environmental, and biosecurity requirements.

Testing, Sampling, and Monitoring

  • Conduct water sampling, environmental testing, and equipment performance checks following approved procedures.
  • Operate and calibrate testing instruments, sensors, and monitoring equipment.
  • Record test results accurately and accelerate anomalies to the CTO.
  • Assist with troubleshooting when test results indicate performance or compliance issues.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance

  • Follow safe working practices, especially when working near water, in rural environments, or around treatment chemicals.
  • Provide input to risk assessments by documenting site conditions and equipment status.
  • Handle, store, and use chemicals safely at both central and remote sites.
  • Support the maintenance of lifting‑equipment logs, safety inspections, and certification records.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Produce clear, structured reports summarising site visits, testing results, equipment conditions, and maintenance activities.
  • Compile data for technical reviews, operational meetings, and CTO‑level reporting.
  • Maintain digital records, checklists, and documentation to support compliance, audits, and governance processes.
  • Track actions assigned by the CTO and provide timely updates.

Coordination and Communication

  • Liaise with engineers, field teams, contractors, and site personnel to coordinate tasks and share findings.
  • Support the CTO with information gathering for technical planning, asset reviews, and improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with operational scheduling, site readiness, and follow‑up on technical actions.

Skills, Experience, and Competencies

  • Practical experience in technical, maintenance, or field‑based work
  • Ability to work independently at remote locations with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially in sampling, testing, and documentation.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, or process equipment.
  • Comfortable working outdoors, near water, and in rural or industrial environments.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel frequently.
  • Experience in water treatment, environmental monitoring, or agricultural settings.
  • Familiarity with pumps, telemetry, dosing systems, or small‑scale treatment equipment.
  • Knowledge of safe chemical handling and lifting equipment.
  • Experience using CMMS, digital reporting tools, or environmental data systems.
  • Exposure to governance or technical planning processes.
