We’re looking for a HM Principal Inspector of Railways: Emergency Management Specialist to join our London office. The role operates on a hybrid working model, with a minimum of two days per week on site (or 40%).
The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) is the independent economic and safety regulator for Britain’s railways and monitors performance on England’s strategic road network. The Railway Safety Directorate ensures that duty‑holders manage health and safety risks effectively and comply with statutory duties.
Role Summary
The successful candidate will provide expert advice to the Channel Tunnel Safety Authority (CTSA) on emergency management issues, including fire and rescue operations, and will lead inspections of Channel Tunnel operators’ emergency preparedness and response arrangements. He or she will also support emergency planning across GB rail operations and represent the UK within the CTSA delegation.
Responsibilities
- Lead inspections of Channel Tunnel operators’ emergency preparedness and response arrangements.
- Offer wider support to ORR on emergency planning across GB rail operations.
- Represent the UK as part of the CTSA delegation.
- Lead a small, multidisciplinary team that includes CTSA inspectors from ORR and the emergency services.
- Collaborate closely with French counterparts to ensure coordinated, effective regulation of Channel Tunnel operations.
