About the role

To supervise and work as part of a multi-skilled civils team delivering underground cabling projects, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of ducting and cable infrastructure across power transmission networks.

You will take responsibility for leading site teams, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring all works are carried out in line with programme, health & safety standards, and customer expectations.

  • Take responsibility for health and safety and promote health and safety across the business
  • Support the delivery of BB Power T&D’s sustainability activities
  • Provide suggestions and recommendations for Temporary Works solutions
  • Identify potential hazards and proactively implement actions and controls
  • Ensure all plant and small tools are adequately maintained before use
  • Carry out all work in accordance with BB Power T&D work instructions, method statements, and policies and procedures
  • Be familiar with, and demonstrate commitment to, the requirements of the Health & Safety and Environmental Policies
  • Seek to improve levels of safety at every opportunity
  • Identify future requirements for setting out and communicate to the General Foreman/Project Engineer/Engineering team
  • Ensure that all Non Conformances are reported as required
  • Weekly review of small tools and plant list
  • Aware of project scope and highlight items of additional work
  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of others who may be affected by your actions or omissions whilst at work
  • Do not recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare
  • Bring to the attention of your manager any perceived shortcomings in health and safety arrangements or situations that you consider to be serious or imminent danger to yourself or others
  • Do not undertake any safety critical work activity or activity for which a specific competence is required unless you have received the necessary training/instruction and/or assessment and hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work
  • Do not instruct others to undertake such work if they do not hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work

To demonstrate correct use of the following:

  • PPE
  • Lifting equipment – colour coding – Slinger/Signaller
  • Shackles, Lifting Chains & Slings
  • Measuring Tapes
  • Excavation rescue
  • Excavation barrier systems
  • Shoring Installation & extraction
  • Accomplished Knowledge of Temporary Works Design
  • Accomplished Knowledge of General Arrangement Drawing
  • Accomplished Knowledge of Bar Bending Schedule
  • Knowledge of Deep Dig Techniques in challenging conditions
  • Understanding of different Tower Types
  • Understanding of different Cable Types
  • Knowledge of Cable installation
  • Knowledge of Duct Installation
  • Knowledge of Duct proving and cleaning
  • Knowledge of Cable Drum setup and Winch setup
  • Knowledge of different formwork systems – Metal Shuttering, Pile Cap Formwork etc

  • Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately
  • Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes
  • Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours / nights / weekends
  • Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility
  • Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card and SSSTS
  • Must be a good team player, with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understands the basic Company Protocols regarding Accidents and Incidents investigations
  • Uncompromising approach to the implementation of safe systems of work
  • Good working knowledge of current H & S legislation
  • Where possible, adopts an innovative approach to enhancing safe systems of work
  • Encourages ownership within the team and fosters a culture of Right First Time
  • Produces and monitors the daily records, including holding reviews with the team members to ensure proper record standards are maintained
  • Understands material wastage allowances and able to suggest improvements to save materials
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to undertake work in high pressure situations
  • Flexibility – Willing to travel and work across the UK
  • Aptitude for working in all weather conditions
  • First Aid at Work

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

  • Experience of working on a variety of construction project types
  • Solution oriented individual, with ability to analyse risks and benefits of options to resolve identified issues. Proven experience of working to tight deadlines with an ability to prioritise and multi-task
  • Capable of taking ownership of the works or a section of the works from start to finish, including the handover of the works
