A London based fintech building infrastructure for complex money movement across cards, Direct Debit and open banking. The platform handles payment collection, applies allocation rules, and supports payouts to multiple parties with full traceability.
It is already live with customers and built for scale. The wider proposition is not just payment processing, but helping clients improve cash flow, reduce disputes and make better financing decisions through clearer transaction level visibility.
The Role
This is a senior backend engineering role focused on building systems where correctness matters. The business deals with real world complexity, including delayed settlement, failed payments and disputes that can surface well after a payout has been made.
You will join a small engineering team led by the CTO and take ownership of features from design through to production.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain backend services in Java for payments, allocation and reconciliation workflows.
- Develop and improve APIs and integration points used by clients and partners.
- Own work end to end, from design and implementation through to testing, deployment and support.
- Work closely with product and engineering colleagues to balance robustness, performance and delivery timelines.
- Contribute to architecture, tooling and development practices as the platform scales.
Requirements
- Strong ownership and accountability.
- Comfortable working independently and communicating risks and dependencies clearly.
- Able to operate effectively in a scaling environment with a degree of ambiguity.
- Strong analytical judgement and interest in the wider product and business context.
- Considerate of the end user, whether that is a colleague, client developer or customer.
Technical skills
- 5+ years of software engineering experience.
- Good working knowledge of Spring Boot, REST APIs and microservices.
- Solid understanding of relational databases, data modelling and querying.
- Experience writing maintainable, well tested code.
- Payments or fintech experience is helpful, but not essential.
- Frontend: TypeScript, Vue, Tailwind UI.
