Apply for the Power Systems Engineer
Location: Bristol
Job Description:

***No Agencies***

We're hiring a Senior Power Systems Engineer to join Pendulum Power and lead the technical delivery of grid-connected renewable, storage and HV projects across the UK. This is a fully remote role open to candidates living and working in the United Kingdom.

About the Role

You'll own complex power system studies end-to-end — from initial feasibility through DNO/TO connection applications and into detailed design. You'll work across solar, wind and battery energy storage projects, supporting developers, EPCs and asset owners to get connected and stay compliant. Expect a mix of independent technical work, client-facing engagement and mentoring of more junior engineers.

What You'll Do

  • Lead grid connection applications (G99, G5/5, ENA EREC) and act as technical lead in liaison with DNOs, iDNOs and the TO.
  • Carry out load flow, fault level, harmonic, stability and protection coordination studies using industry-standard tools (DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, AutoCAD LT).
  • Design and review HV/MV systems, substations and protection schemes for renewable and BESS projects up to 132 kV.
  • Produce single-line diagrams, protection settings, earthing studies and compliance documentation to grid code standards.
  • Provide technical due diligence on developer pipelines, M&A targets and connection offers.
  • Mentor junior engineers and review their work; help shape our internal standards and templates.
  • Represent Pendulum Power in technical meetings with clients, DNOs and Ofgem-regulated parties.

What We Are Looking For

  • 3–5 years' post-graduate experience in power systems engineering, with a strong UK grid focus.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a closely related discipline. Chartered status (CEng) or working towards it is a plus.
  • Deep working knowledge of UK Grid Code, Distribution Code, G99 and ENA Engineering Recommendations.
  • Hands-on experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory and AutoCAD LT; ETAP a bonus.
  • Proven track record delivering grid connection studies for renewables, storage or large industrial loads.
  • Confident in protection & control design and HV substation engineering.
  • Excellent written communication — you'll be producing reports that go to DNOs and clients.
  • Self-directed and comfortable working remotely; able to manage your own workload and deadlines.

What We Offer

  • Salary dependent on experience — we pay competitively for the right person.
  • Fully remote working from anywhere in the UK, with occasional travel to client sites and team meet-ups.
  • Pension, private healthcare and 28 days' holiday plus bank holidays.
  • A varied technical pipeline — we work across the most active parts of the UK energy transition.
  • Genuine influence over how we work, what we build and where the business goes next.
  • Support for CPD, IET membership and chartership.

Eligibility

This role is open to applicants who already have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship . We are unable to sponsor visas or consider applicants who require sponsorship now or in the future. You must be resident in the UK for the duration of the role.

How to Apply

Send your CV and a short note about a grid connection or system study you're proud of to design@pendulum-power.co.uk , or apply via this LinkedIn post.
