Grid Integration and System Studies Engineer

Duration – 03/08/2026 to 02/08/2027

Base location – TBD based on candidates' preference. it will be either

Swindon, Coventry, London

Freelance contract – Outside IR35

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

The Engineer will sit in the client Renewables Electrical System & Project Engineering Region 2 team, supporting the Project’s Engineering and Package Managers with responsibilities including:

• Working in construction or development phases of our offshore wind farm projects, the Engineer will be responsible for ensuring a robust and optimised through life design of the project’s electrical system supporting on all aspects of the generation and transmission system up to the grid interface point.

• Advise projects on specific questions regarding electrical system behaviour, grid code compliance and grid connection processes.

• Act as project's grid integration and system studies technical expert for discussions with OEM’s and EPC contractors providing HVAC or HVDC offshore transmission solutions.

• Lead and coordinate grid connection processes, organising all relevant technical documentation, test reports, and certifications.

• Lead design/ prequalification for packages of offshore wind farms and components performing audits and technical due diligence.

• Create simulation models for electrical systems, and perform load flow and short circuit calculations, analyse dynamic stability and harmonics stability as well as protection concepts.

• Plan and coordinate internal and external resources for technical due diligence projects (e.g. of M&A acquisitions), analyse simulation results, technical solutions and risks, make proposals for technical and commercial decisions.

• Analyse electrical system behaviour and grid code compliance for projects and existing plants.

• Close liaison with technical experts in Offshore Engineering's EC&I Department and the Grid Integration & Studies Engineers working on similar projects to ensure their knowledge is effectively utilised on the project.

MUST HAVES:

• University degree or comparable education ideally in electrical power engineering.

• Fluent English speaking and writing.

• Experience in system studies of offshore wind or similar large HV transmission projects.

• Experience of the grid connection process and Grid Code in the UK, ideally dealing with both NESO and NGET.

• Comprehensive knowledge of the application of relevant software programs such as MS Office, DigSilent PowerFactory and PSCAD (for load flow, short circuit, protection, RMS and EMT simulations).

• Knowledge of electrical plant including large power transformers, switchgear, onshore transmission substations, converter systems, static and dynamic reactive power compensation solutions, HV/MV cable systems.

• Appreciation of The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) roles and responsibilities.

• Excellent communication, coordination skills, highly motivated, confident and resourceful.

• Broad knowledge of the use of relevant guidelines, norms and standards and best practice.

NICE TO HAVE:

• Chartership in an Engineering discipline and membership of recognised professional body

• Renewable energy/offshore wind farm experience

• Demonstrable experience of working effectively in an international business

• Excellent communication, coordination and leadership skills, highly motivated, confident and resourceful

• Valid driving licence
