An ambitious, fast-growing UK business operating within a highly regulated consumer services sector is seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer to lead and develop its privacy function.

This is a genuine DPO role with real visibility, influence, and autonomy. The organisation is PE-backed, scaling rapidly, and operates within a fast-paced commercial environment where strong stakeholder engagement and pragmatic decision-making are essential.

This is not a “maintenance” compliance role. The organisation is looking for someone who can actively raise awareness, influence behaviours, and continue embedding a strong data protection culture across the business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the organisation’s statutory Data Protection Officer
  • Leading UK GDPR and wider privacy compliance activity
  • Advising on FCA-related regulatory considerations and PECR
  • Managing data incidents, complaints, SARs, and ICO engagement
  • Developing and improving governance frameworks, controls, and policies
  • Delivering training and increasing organisational awareness
  • Partnering closely with commercial, operational, compliance, IT, and leadership teams
  • Providing independent oversight and constructive challenge where required

Candidates should have:

  • Proven experience operating as a DPO
  • Strong knowledge of UK GDPR, PECR, and FCA-regulated activities
  • Experience working within fast-paced, evolving businesses
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • The confidence to influence and challenge senior leadership when necessary
  • A pragmatic, commercially aware approach to compliance
  • CIPP/E qualification or equivalent experience

The organisation offers a highly visible and collaborative culture with a hands-on leadership team and significant exposure to senior stakeholders. This role would suit someone who enjoys operating autonomously, building relationships across a business, and making a tangible impact quickly.

This is an urgent, business-critical hire and an excellent opportunity for an experienced privacy professional looking to step into a high-profile role within a growing organisation.
