Location: Cambridge
Job Description:

We’re looking for a CAD Engineer to join a 6‑month fixed‑term project supporting a major engineering data‑migration initiative. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on CAD work, problem‑solving, and getting complex technical data into excellent shape.

Based on‑site in Cambourne, you’ll play a key part in preparing and transferring engineering data from an existing PDM system into a new PLM environment. If you have a strong eye for detail and experience working with SolidWorks, PDM/PLM tools, and structured engineering data, this project will give you the chance to make a real impact.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the cleansing, validation, and migration of CAD and engineering data into a new PLM system.
  • Working with SolidWorks and a SWIM interface to ensure smooth, accurate data transfer.
  • Reviewing CAD models, metadata, part structures, and documentation to identify inconsistencies or errors.
  • Improving data quality by resolving gaps, correcting structures, and standardising naming conventions.
  • Collaborating with engineering, IT, and PLM teams to support migration planning and execution.
  • Troubleshooting data‑related issues and validating migrated records.
  • Maintaining clear documentation of progress, issues, and resolutions throughout the project.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience as a CAD Engineer, CAD Administrator, or similar technical role.
  • Strong working knowledge of PDM and PLM systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with SolidWorks and ideally Teamcenter.
  • Background in data cleansing, migration, or system transitions.
  • Understanding of CAD file structures, metadata, and lifecycle processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage large volumes of technical data.
  • Confident communication and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

  • A degree in engineering, design, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Apprenticeships, NVQs, BTECs, or equivalent practical experience are also welcome.
  • Strong written English and proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys structured engineering work, thrives in project environments, and wants to contribute to a high‑value data transformation initiative.
