Job overview

To Support the Nuclear Medicine and Bone Densitometry services . To manage workload within the department to ensure optimum throughput whilst maintaining a safe environment and highest standard of patients care.

Participate in the training and education of junior staff and students.

Main duties of the job

Clinical responsibilities:

  • To give the very highest standard of care to the cohort of patients for whom you have been made responsible and to be able to carry out all tasks involved in ensuring that any patient in your care is successfully examined and well cared for.
  • To ensure that radio‑active sources are contained in accordance with legislation, that doses and waste are recorded properly and that staff in the department comply as well.
  • To administer intravenous doses of Nuclear Medicine isotopes.
  • To demonstrate the ability to carry out a full range of Nuclear medicine examinations to an extremely high standard.
  • To carry out a full range of Bone Densitometry examinations to an extremely high standard.
  • To liaise with referral sources where clarification is required for justification of examinations.
  • To acquire quality diagnostic images and physically position the full range of patient presentations accurately for examinations taking into account patient limitations and adapting standard techniques where necessary.
  • To have advanced technical knowledge and skills in Nuclear Medicine scanning and equipment in the Nuclear Medicine Department.
  • To assess specific communication needs of individual patients.

Person specification

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION

  • BTEC or NVQ Level 3 in Hospital Pharmacy Services Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council

EXPERIENCE

  • Post qualification hospital experience. Experience in supervision of staff. Computer literate for dispensing and stock keeping purposes. Staff training. Patient/carer counselling Multidisciplinary team work.
  • Experience with the CMM pharmacy computer system. Knowledge and experience of appraisal. Knowledge of NVQ process Dispensing/supply of clinical trials and GCP Understanding of and participation in data collection for KPIs and audit.
