Employment Solicitor – Ideally 4 Years Plus PQE

Purpose of role: to provide employment law advice and support, primarily to businesses and business owners.
We are seeking an experienced employment Solicitor to join our growing team. This role is primarily respondent based, supporting employers across contentious and non-contentious matters, with a strong advisory and drafting element. You will help clients prevent issues where possible and resolve them sensibly when they arise, with the autonomy to run your own matters and support from colleagues across the Firm.

Butcher & Barlow supports employers across a wide range of sectors, from owner managed businesses to larger organisations with established HR teams. Our work is varied and often fast moving, with a focus on giving practical advice that helps clients manage risk and move forward with confidence. We work closely with colleagues in other teams when employment matters connect with wider advice.
Who we are looking for
- You will be a qualified Solicitor with 4 years plus PQE in employment law.
- You will have experience running and maintaining a varied caseload covering a broad range of employment matters.
- You will be confident drafting and reviewing employment contracts, handbooks and workplace policies.
- You will enjoy working as part of a team, sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and contributing to the continued growth of the Firm.
What you will be doing
You will advise employers and business owners across a broad range of employment matters, including:
- day-to-day HR advice, including disciplinaries, grievances, absence and performance issues
- redundancy processes, consultation support and workforce changes
- negotiated exits, including settlement agreements
- respondent tribunal matters, including strategy and preparation
- drafting and updating employment contracts, handbooks and workplace policies
- supporting clients to manage risk and take a sensible, proportionate approach
- working with colleagues across the Firm where employment matters connect with wider advice.
What we expect of you
- strong knowledge of employment law, with the confidence to advise clearly on complex matters
- organised and self-sufficient, able to manage your own caseload, prioritise and progress matters efficiently
- a practical communicator, comfortable speaking face to face and over the telephone and able to build relationships across the Firm and with clients
- strong drafting skills, producing clear, concise documents with attention to detail
- accurate under pressure, with good time and file management
- confident using IT systems, including case and document management, and open to learning new technology
