Job Title: Attendance and Outreach Officer

Role Overview

We are seeking an Attendance and Outreach Officer to support student attendance, engagement, and participation. The successful candidate will monitor attendance, follow up on absences, and work with students, families, and staff to remove barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track student attendance and punctuality
  • Identify patterns of absence and early signs of disengagement
  • Follow up on absences through calls, messages, and communication with parents/carers
  • Work with students to address barriers affecting attendance and engagement
  • Provide outreach support for vulnerable or persistently absent students
  • Liaise with families to encourage improved attendance and participation
  • Work with safeguarding, wellbeing, and pastoral staff to support at‑risk students
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and intervention logs
  • Support reintegration plans for students returning after absence
  • Contribute to attendance improvement strategies and initiatives
  • Escalate concerns in line with safeguarding and attendance procedures
  • Promote a positive culture of attendance and engagement

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Understanding of attendance, engagement, and barriers to learning
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to work with families in a supportive and professional manner
  • Good organisational and record‑keeping skills
  • Ability to manage confidential information appropriately
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in an attendance, pastoral, or outreach role
  • Experience supporting vulnerable or disengaged students
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and early intervention processes
  • Experience working with SEN students
  • Experience working with external agencies or community services
