Business Development Manager – High Voltage Transmission (UK)

I’m working for a leading global manufacturer of transformers who looking to expand into the UK market alongside their VP of Sales.

This role can’t offer VISA sponsorship, so it’s crucial that you already have full working rights for the UK.

Our client is a globally established engineering and manufacturing organisation specialising in high-voltage power transmission and transformation equipment. With a strong international footprint and decades of experience delivering large-scale grid infrastructure projects, the company is recognised for its technical innovation in ultra-high voltage (UHV) and HV solutions.

As part of a strategic expansion into the UK market, the organisation is actively investing in building a local commercial presence to support utilities, grid operators, and major infrastructure upgrades aligned to energy transition goals.

Role Overview

The Business Development Manager – UK will be responsible for driving commercial growth across the UK transmission and distribution sector, with a focus on securing business with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and the Transmission System Operator (TSO).

This is a high-impact, front-facing role requiring both strategic market development and hands-on sales execution, with a focus on high-voltage equipment solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Market Development & Strategy

  • Develop and execute a UK-focused business development strategy targeting DNOs and the TSO
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities within transmission and distribution infrastructure projects

2. Key Account Management

  • Build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across UK utilities
  • Act as the main commercial point of contact for strategic clients

3. Sales & Tendering

  • Lead the full sales cycle, including opportunity identification, tender participation, and contract negotiation
  • Support and coordinate bid preparation in collaboration with technical and engineering teams

4. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage with utilities, EPC contractors, consultants, and regulatory stakeholders
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client meetings

5. Market Intelligence

  • Monitor UK grid investment plans, regulatory frameworks, and competitor activity
  • Provide insight into market trends to support pricing, positioning, and product strategy

6. Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with global engineering, project delivery, and manufacturing teams to ensure alignment with client needs
  • Provide customer feedback to support product development and localisation

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in business development or sales within the high-voltage / power transmission sector
  • Strong track record of working with UK DNOs and/or the TSO (e.g. National Grid)
  • Established network within UK utilities, EPCs, or grid infrastructure stakeholders
  • Technical understanding of high-voltage equipment such as transformers, bushings, or substations is highly desirable

  • Commercially driven with a strong ability to win and close strategic deals
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
  • Strong understanding of UK energy market dynamics and regulatory environment
  • Self-starter with the ability to operate independently in a growing regional setup
