Job overview

Applications are invited for a 12-month Senior Clinical Fellowship position in Uveitis at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Post starting in June 2026.

This post provides in-depth training in uveitis diagnosis and management in the Manchester Uveitis Clinic, one of the busiest uveitis services in Europe. The post includes adult and paediatric uveitis. There will be opportunities for research including clinical trials. Start date can be discussed.

Applicants will be expected to have completed, or to be near completion of, their higher specialist training programme or equivalent in ophthalmology. Candidates must have FRCOphth/MRCOphth or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will attend all timetabled clinical sessions promptly and provide a reliable consultation service. You will contribute to the urgency provision of the unit by:

  • Acting as a point of contact for internal tertiary referrals during normal working hours and liaising with uveitis consultants over the transfer of patient care.
  • Providing emergency and urgent uveitis reviews for new tertiary referrals (in and out‑patients).
  • Providing urgent ad hoc consultations for existing patients with recurrent problems.
  • Contributing to the development of clinic management protocols and patient information pamphlets.
  • Contributing to the education of trainee ophthalmologists who are not members of the uveitis team, by raising the profile of uveitis at postgraduate meetings, making frequent presentations there, and by providing informal and formal teaching to junior doctors.
  • Contributing to service development.
  • Contributing to research.
