Overview
Python Developer – Insurance Analytics – London with hybrid working as per departmental requirements (2 days per week in the office).
In this role you will work on production-grade analytical and AI systems that shape real commercial decisions. You’ll work with some of the world’s largest insurers, tackling large and complex datasets, and solving challenging problems across data engineering, modelling, and software design. We are in an exciting scale-up phase, having onboarded our first European and North American clients last year. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team with the energy and autonomy of a scale-up, while benefiting from the stability, support, and work-life balance of an established company.
A bit about InsurSight and the team
Launched in April 2020, InsurSight is used to assess more than £200bn of non-life insurance business and is licensed by a large number of insurers. It runs predictive modelling across a broad range of non-life insurance classes—from motor and cyber insurance to hurricane risk and even rocket launches. This variety gives the team exposure to diverse, intellectually stimulating problems, applying analytics and engineering across very different real-world contexts.
InsurSight is a cloud-native platform and as we continue to scale, cloud architecture is an increasingly important part of the engineering challenge – from improving efficiency and controlling costs to supporting a growing client base in multiple locations across the world. As we manage the infrastructure for our clients, we have the flexibility and autonomy to make changes to the architecture. ML has also been a key differentiator for InsurSight since its launch.
Our in-house algorithms for trend identification and claims prediction have helped clients see ML deliver genuine value in practice and have reported time savings of up to 80%. We are now using LLMs to transform both how we develop software and the features we build, helping us solve increasingly complex client problems in new ways. The team combines deep actuarial and insurance expertise with modern technology, working across tools including Python, C#, Vue, NoSQL, Azure, Cursor, Codex, Git and DevOps best practice. Our team consists of 1 product manager, 1 delivery manager, 5 C# developers, 2 Python developers, 2 analytics actuaries, 2 front end developers, 1 DevOps and site reliability engineer, 3 QA engineers.

- Champion best practices in software engineering including testing, version control, CI/CD, and OOP
- Optimise performance of complex data and analytics workflows, including calculations on large datasets (e.g. multi-GB datasets)
- Review and provide feedback on code written by other developers, support mentoring and skill development across the team
- Collaborate with actuaries, analysts and data scientists to deliver technically robust, industry-relevant features
- Research and prototype new technologies, including LLMs, to support innovation and continuous improvement
- Contribute to a culture of curiosity, collaboration and technical excellence
Skills and Experience
- Strong Python development experience, with a track record of writing production-grade, maintainable code
- Experience working with large datasets and performance-critical workloads
- Familiarity with Azure PaaS/SaaS tools (e.g. Azure Functions, Batch, Blob/Table/Queue Storage), and CosmosDB
- Comfort with software-engineering best practices: automated testing, version control, CI/CD and OOP
- Proactive, problem-solving mindset with a focus on performance and user experience
- Experience working in a domain-rich environment
- Experience picking up complex and unfamiliar analytical concepts
