CAMHS Directorate

We are looking for a keen Specialty Doctor to join the highly motivated and dynamic team of clinicians in Lambeth CAMHS in a fixed term 1 year position. The CAMHS Directorate of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust is one of the most comprehensive mental health service for children and young people in the country.

Main duties of the job

The post will work across the generic CAMHS and ADHD teams to attend to children and young people up to the age of 18 years who present with a range of significant mental health and neurodevelopmental difficulties. The team bases are located at William Geoffrey House, 35 Black Prince Road, Kennington and at St John’s Angell Town Primary School.

Consultant supervision takes place on a weekly basis. There are excellent opportunities for professional development including management, training, research and audit experience. There is also opportunity for teaching locally within the service to multi-disciplinary and medical colleagues.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work alongside 7 Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists (4.8 WTE) within the Borough, another specialty doctor, and two core and higher speciality trainee. Lambeth CAMHS is made up of several teams including the Tier 3 Child and Adolescent Community Service (River), Early Intervention CAMHS (Spring), Community Crisis Team (Rapids), Children Looked After Mental Health Service (CLAMHS), the CAMHS Youth Offending Team (CAMHS-YOS), and the Parent and Infant Relationship Service (PAIRS). The teams are multidisciplinary and include a wide range of experienced staff.

Person Specification

Professional Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification

Training and Experience

  • Evidence of achievement of CT3 competences in Psychiatry including experience of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (A) or Equivalent experience and competencies (I) (A)
  • Experience of working with Children & Adolescents (A) (I)

Clinical skills

  • Good adolescent psychiatric assessment skills (A) (I)
  • Good ability to relate to children, adolescents and parents (I)
  • Good ability to work in a team setting (I)
  • Core Trainee competencies in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice – good clinical care, maintaining good medical practice, good relationships with colleagues, good teaching and training, professional behaviour and probity, good acute clinical care delivery (A)
  • Up-to-date knowledge and fitness to practice (A) (I)
  • Experience of working in inpatient settings and demonstrable therapeutic skills with children and adolescents (A) (I)
  • Experience of initiating medication in children and adolescents and monitoring effects (A) (I)

Management/Audit/QI

  • Participation in audit/QI in clinical posts (A) (I)
  • Experience of leading on audit/QI projects (A) (I)

Teaching

  • Willingness to teach (I)
  • Skills in teaching medical and other health care students. (A) (I)

Personal Skills

  • Excellent demonstrable communication skills in English (both oral and written) (A) (I)
