The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Electrical & Electronic Engineer to lead the development of advanced naval electrical systems.
This role combines system‑level design, hands‑on integration, and technical leadership, supporting the delivery of complex equipment including power distribution, control electronics, and electrical infrastructure within harsh maritime environments.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Architecture & System Integration
- Define and lead equipment‑level electrical architectures for naval systems
- Design and integrate power distribution, protection, control, and monitoring solutions
- Specify and integrate key subsystems such as power controllers, cabling assemblies, and transfer interfaces
- Ensure correct grounding, bonding, insulation, and protection strategies
- Deliver designs aligned to safety, EMC/EMI, reliability, and maintainability requirements
Cabling & Electrical Infrastructure
- Design and specify cabling, harnessing, and connector solutions for harsh environments
- Collaborate with mechanical teams on cable routing, protection, and interface design
- Ensure electrical integrity under vibration, motion, and environmental exposure
Power Systems & Control
- Develop power distribution systems including load analysis, derating, and protection schemes
- Integrate monitoring, conditioning, and protection within electrical cabinets and assemblies
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and engineering processes
Testing, Verification & Delivery
- Define and execute verification activities including functional testing and safety validation
- Support build, integration, commissioning, and fault‑finding activities
- Provide hands‑on support during system integration and deployment phases
Engineering Governance & Leadership
- Produce and maintain technical documentation including schematics, wiring schedules, and specifications
- Lead design reviews, safety assessments, and technical assurance activities
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to ensure aligned and effective delivery
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Degree qualified in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or related discipline
- Proven experience delivering electrical systems at equipment or subsystem level
- Strong background in power distribution, electrical integration, and cabling systems
- Experience with EMC considerations, environmental constraints, and safety‑critical systems
- Strong understanding of electrical safety principles and applicable standards
- Ability to produce clear, structured technical documentation
- Effective communication, able to work across multidisciplinary teams
Desirable
- Experience within defence, marine, aerospace, nuclear, or other regulated industries
- Exposure to deployable, electromechanical, or transmission‑based systems
- Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, or equivalent standards
- Professional registration (IEng/CEng) or working towards
Security Requirements
Due to the nature of our programmes, candidates must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
