Consultant Radiographer (Breast Imaging)

We are looking for a motivated, dynamic breast radiographer to join our friendly breast imaging unit as a Consultant Radiographer in “The Garden of England”. You should hold qualifications in Film Reading, Breast Ultrasound and Interventional procedures; and either possess an MSc in Breast Imaging or be near completion.

You will be working alongside another Consultant Radiographer and a team including Consultant Radiologists, Specialist Doctors, and Advanced Practitioners, who all work to deliver an exceptional level of expertise in the specialist clinical field of breast disease and cancer diagnosis in both the screening and symptomatic services of East Kent Hospital University Foundation Trust (EKHUFT). The local Breast Screening Programme is based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital and has a screening population of approximately 120,000 women. The Symptomatic service runs over the Trust’s three main hospital sites with One Stop Breast Clinics carried out on each site.

Main duties of the job

We seek an experienced and compassionate colleague, who will:

  • Provide person-centred and compassionate care, evaluate and research the patient experience across the service and organisation by setting out and implementing organisational standards that reflect person centeredness to guide organisational expectations.
  • Deliver a whole-system, patient-centred approach, rooted in multidisciplinary team working.
  • Meet the care needs of both patients and their supporters sensitively and respectfully.
  • Act as a practitioner, operator and referrer as directed by IR(ME)R 2017, ensuring the radiation safety of individuals within the Breast Imaging Unit.
  • Undertake the administration of local anaesthetic and supply and/or administer medication within defined protocols in accordance with the PGD
  • Have the knowledge, skill and post graduate qualification / certification in all of the Advanced Practices listed: Breast image reading; Breast x-ray guided interventional procedures; Breast ultrasound; Breast clinical examination

Person Specification

Qualifications and training

  • Degree in Diagnostic Radiography and PgC in Principles and Practice in Mammography.
  • Training to master’s level equivalent in specialist area, plus practical experience. Evidence of Post Graduate study to include: oImage Interpretation oInterventional Procedures oUltrasound oClinical Examination & Communication
  • HCPC registration
  • MSc in Breast Imaging
  • PhD/doctoral studies or working towards.

Clinical skills and experience

  • Excellent clinical skills
  • Good inter-personal and teamworking skills; Excellent communication skills; Developed organisational skills; Effective decision-making skills
  • Experience in training and developing others in specialist field
  • Experience presenting locally/ regionally/nationally
