Your team: The News UK Data team is embarking on a new chapter of growth, driving the company’s AI strategy and supporting our brands in achieving data-powered product growth. Our cross-functional, Agile teams span London, Sofia, and Bangalore, working collectively to handle the collection, ingestion, utilisation, and warehousing of data, alongside asset enrichment through machine learning and AI. We build industry-leading insights tools, consumer-facing AI features, and efficiency tooling to foster data-informed decision-making across the entire business.

Your role: We are looking for a Data Solutions Engineer to join the team on a 12 month maternity cover contract. In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineering and platform teams to build robust pipelines, unravel complex data problems, and turn bold ideas into transformative data products.

Day to day you will:

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable, performant, and cost-effective data solutions.
  • Deliver all technical work in alignment with agreed data architecture principles, standards, and best practices.
  • Design optimized data marts tailored for downstream consumption across BI visualization tools, Customer Data Platforms, and APIs.
  • Collaborate closely with Data Engineering, Data Governance, and Data Platforms teams to ensure secure, efficient, and policy-compliant implementations.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Deep technical expertise delivering end-to-end data solutions utilizing BigQuery, Dataform, and Airflow.
  • Advanced SQL and data modeling capabilities specifically tailored for complex analytics and reporting use-cases.
  • Practical knowledge designing and orchestrating data workflows, dependencies, and managed transformations.
  • Proven background working alongside business analysts to successfully gather, clarify, and validate technical requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting capabilities to navigate complex, large-scale data environments.
  • Collaborative communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions across both engineering teams and non-technical audiences.
  • Solid understanding of data quality, reliability, and operational best practices.
