Company Description

EHS Projects is a nationally operating environment, health and safety consultancy based in Sheffield. We work with clients across a wide range of sectors including manufacturing, food and drink, chemical, engineering, waste, and aviation. Our services span the full breadth of EHS practice: compliance auditing, process safety and safety in design, CDM (including Principal Designer and Principal Contractor support), embedded on-site contractor management, environmental permitting, and regulatory reporting. We pride ourselves on working as a genuine extension of our clients’ teams, providing practical, constructive advice that helps them prioritise resource, take ownership of their EHS risks and opportunities, and drive meaningful improvement.

Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Consultant to join our growing team. Based from our Sheffield office, the role involves significant time at client sites across the UK.

The core purpose of the role is to lead and deliver our compliance audit programmes and H&S consultancy projects, with a high degree of autonomy and direct client ownership. As a senior member of the team you will also play an active role in mentoring others and supporting business development.

In this role you will…

  • Lead health and safety audits covering legal compliance, management systems, and corporate EHS agendas
  • Take independent ownership of client accounts and project delivery across our health and safety service lines
  • Design and deliver health and safety management system support projects
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, acting as a trusted point of contact
  • Support fellow consultants and contribute to the development of the wider team
  • Contribute to business development activity, including scoping new work and supporting proposals
  • Help shape and diversify the services EHS Projects offers as we continue to grow

For the right candidate, additional responsibilities may include:

  • Delivering or supporting specialist process safety work including DSEAR assessments and process hazard analysis (e.g. HAZOP, LOPA)
  • Working on CDM projects in the role of Principal Designer, including Pre-Construction Information, Construction Phase Plans, and site oversight
  • Leading machinery safety projects (ISO 12100 / PUWER)

Why is this job right for you?

If you are an experienced H&S professional looking for a role that gives you genuine autonomy, a varied client base, and a clear path to influence within a growing consultancy, this is worth your attention.

You will have real ownership of your client relationships and project delivery from day one, without the bureaucracy of a larger organisation. The work is genuinely varied across sectors, sites, and service lines, and you will have the opportunity to shape how the business develops in the areas you find most interesting.

The role involves regular UK travel and overnight stays, which suits professionals who enjoy being on the road and working in different environments. You will have direct exposure to a wide range of industrial and operational settings, and the variety is a meaningful part of what makes the work engaging.

We have a strong track record of supporting our team to develop in the directions that interest them most, and at senior level that extends to developing your own specialism, taking on account leadership, and in time taking on a more strategic role within the business.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a confident, commercially aware H&S professional who is ready to operate with a high degree of independence and take clear ownership of their work. You will have sufficient experience to hit the ground running on client sites and lead projects without close supervision, while remaining collaborative and open to development.

Essential Requirements

  • At least one year of professional experience in a health and safety role within the UK
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or higher (Diploma or equivalent preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan and deliver H&S audits and compliance projects
  • Strong organisational, time management, and project management skills
  • A confident, self-motivated work style with the ability to manage client relationships and project workloads independently
  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Full, clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, with willingness to travel regularly across the UK

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in H&S consultancy or a client-facing EHS role, with a track record of independently leading audits, projects, or compliance programmes.
  • NEBOSH Diploma, CMIOSH, or working towards Chartered status
  • CDM experience, particularly in a Principal Designer capacity
  • Experience working in manufacturing, chemical, or wider industrial environments
  • Exposure to process safety methodologies (DSEAR, HAZOP, LOPA, or similar)
