Governance & Data Protection Officer
Hybrid Working | £60,000 – £65,000 | Permanent
Help shape governance and data protection within one of London’s most ambitious housing organisations
B&D Reside is growing fast. With more than 1,400 new homes due to come into management by 2027, we are entering a significant new phase as an organisation. That growth brings opportunity, complexity, and the need for strong governance foundations that protect residents, support innovation, and help us deliver excellent services. We are now looking for a Governance & Data Protection Officer to play a central role in that journey.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of data protection and governance across a dynamic, multi-entity housing organisation that is modernising, evolving and investing heavily in its future. You will work closely with senior leadership, influence organisation-wide practice, and help embed a culture of accountability, transparency and continuous improvement. Over time, the role is expected to evolve into the organisation’s internal Data Protection Officer position.
About Us
B&D Reside works closely with the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham to provide high-quality affordable, intermediate and market-rent homes across the borough.
Founded to support the borough’s regeneration ambitions, we are proud to combine social purpose with a modern, forward-thinking approach to housing management. Today, we manage a diverse and growing housing portfolio across multiple legal entities governed by independent boards. At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to residents, innovation, accountability and delivery.

You will lead on all aspects of data protection, governance compliance and information management across the organisation. This is a broad and visible role that combines operational delivery with strategic influence. Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading on GDPR and UK Data Protection Act compliance
- Developing and maintaining data retention schedules and governance frameworks
- Managing data breaches, DPIAs, SARs, FOIs and wider data rights requests
- Supporting governance, risk, assurance and policy activities across the business
- Reviewing contracts and supplier arrangements from a data protection perspective
- Delivering training and awareness programmes for staff
- Supporting audit readiness and regulatory compliance
- Building internal capability ahead of transitioning into the DPO function
About You
We are looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with a practical, collaborative approach. You will bring:
- Strong working knowledge of GDPR, the UK Data Protection Act
- Experience managing data governance, compliance or information management activity
- The confidence to advise stakeholders across different levels of an organisation
- High levels of integrity and discretion
In return, we offer:
- A meaningful role with visible impact
- Hybrid working
