Design Manager (Major Cut & Carve Projects)

Salter Grange is looking for two experienced Design Managers delivering high-profile cut & carve developments in London. This is a unique opportunity to work on complex, technically challenging projects involving large-scale refurbishment, structural alteration and heritage restoration.

Projects:

North London: Commercial to Residential Conversion

  • £70m cut & carve redevelopment
  • Conversion of an existing commercial building into high-quality residential accommodation
  • Extensive structural modification and coordination

Central London: Grade I Listed Hotel Development

  • £250m landmark scheme
  • Conversion of a Grade I listed building into a luxury hotel
  • Complex heritage, façade retention and stakeholder requirements

The Role:

As Design Manager, you will lead and coordinate the design process from pre-construction through delivery, ensuring technical excellence, programme compliance and successful integration between consultants, subcontractors and the construction team.

You will play a key role in managing design risk, driving buildability solutions and maintaining quality across both projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the design process through all project stages
  • Coordinating architects, consultants and specialist subcontractors
  • Reviewing technical information and ensuring design compliance
  • Driving design programme and information release schedules
  • Managing RFIs, design changes and technical queries
  • Supporting procurement and construction teams with buildability input
  • Liaising with clients, stakeholders and local authorities
  • Ensuring designs meet statutory, planning and heritage requirements

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager on major refurbishment or cut & carve projects
  • Experience working on listed buildings, commercial conversions or complex structural refurbishments
  • Main contractor background preferred
  • Strong technical and construction knowledge
  • Excellent coordination and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment
  • Relevant construction or design qualification
