The Neston Club & Parkgate Clubhouse is one of the premier sporting and private member clubs in the North of England. Located on a 15-acre complex, it features state-of-the-art facilities, including multiple cricket pitches, tennis courts, a hockey pitch, squash courts, a bowling green, and a croquet lawn. The Parkgate Clubhouse includes four bars, two function rooms, and two commercial kitchens, making it an ideal fully catered venue for weddings, conferences, and other events. This vibrant and dynamic club offers members and guests exceptional experiences in both sports and hospitality.

Role Description

The Club / General Manager’s primary goal is to ensure the smooth running of the Clubhouse and deliver excellence at every opportunity.

To do this, they will work with the CEO, Senior management Team, events, and the wider clubhouse team to coordinate and manage all operational aspects of the club, including facilities, to the highest possible standards. They will do this by living our values and advancing our purpose across the club.

The Club Manager must be prudent and inspiring; they must also have in-depth knowledge of hospitality and club operations. A respect for and understanding of all sports is desirable.

Club

  • Handle member inquiries, feedback, and complaints with professionalism, ensuring quick resolution and member satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members, staff, and the local community to enhance the club’s reputation and reach.
  • Consistently deliver great experiences for the members & customers on every visit.
  • Maintain a professional, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for members and guests
  • Develop and execute strategies to drive membership growth, retention, and satisfaction, aligning with the club’s business goals.
  • Contribute to member retention by being a highly visible figure around the club and maintaining excellent induction, recruitment, and retention strategies.
  • Lead the Clubhouse and work closely with all other senior managers to ensure the smooth running of the club on a day-to-day basis.
  • Work closely with the events team to ensure all preparation, room set ups and requests are completed and met in advance of all external bookings
  • Ensure the highest standards of facility maintenance, cleanliness, and safety, providing a top-tier experience for all members and guests.
  • Lead on the delivery of the Club’s Health & Safety policy to ensure full UK legal compliance and that the club operates efficiently and in full compliance with UK regulations.

Business

  • Manage and implement initiatives to drive profitability.
  • Drive revenue across all streams (events, F&B, sports, memberships)
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality
  • Monitor KPIs and implement improvements where needed
  • Maximize revenue through promotions
  • Report regularly on club operational performance, providing insights and recommendations to the CEO and senior management.
  • Work with the CEO to monitor budgets, control costs and improve profitability
  • Recommend and then make high-quality decisions to advance the operations and overall business and increase profits.

Staffing

  • Recruit, train, and manage a high-performing team, fostering a positive, motivating, and customer-focused work environment.
  • Drive employee engagement, retention, and performance through HR practices to contribute to developing a high-performing team and culture of success.
  • Lead by example, coach, inspire and empower your team to outperform against all metrics.
  • Overseeing service standards, staffing and rotas.
  • Provide cover for other senior managers where required.
  • Contribute and hold relevant meetings to deliver operational success.
  • Be one of the main contacts for the team.

  

Experience

 

  • Proven senior management experience in hospitality, leisure, members’ clubs or lifestyle venues
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills, including P&L ownership
  • Experience leading and developing multi-disciplinary teams
  • A track record of driving customer & member engagement, retention and revenue growth
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities
  • Excellent operational knowledge across F&B and service delivery
  • Strong leadership, communication, people management and organisational skills
  • A hands-on, proactive and solutions-focused approach
  • A genuine passion for hospitality, community and delivering exceptional experiences
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required
  • Experience within sport or membership-based businesses would be highly advantageous.
