Salaried GP – Newbridge Surgery Sessions

We are recruiting an enthusiastic Salaried GP to work 2 sessions per week (on a Thursday) at Newbridge Surgery in Wolverhampton. The post is permanent and seeks an experienced GP who can work autonomously.

The post is open to any GP with full GMC registration. Whether you are newly qualified or have experience in a salaried GP role, we are looking for someone who can competently undertake the following tasks.

  • Face‑to‑face consultations, telephone and video consultations
  • Triage and signpost patients
  • Undertake home visits and care home visits when needed (driving licence required)
  • Approve prescription requests
  • Handle Docman / EMIS tasks and correspondence
  • Refer to secondary care and other providers
  • Deal with non‑NHS work, including private medical reports
  • Supervise registrars when required
  • Undertake additional locum shifts if needed

Newbridge Surgery has 5,964 registered patients. There is opportunity for professional scope and development in this role within a learning environment. Salary is in line with the BMA salaried GP pay scale and is reimbursed via ARRS.

Job responsibilities

  • Manage a patient caseload and address a wide range of health needs, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
  • Provide surgery consultations, telephone and home visit care, repeat prescriptions and timely referrals.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions for presenting problems and self‑referrals.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Supervise trainees, practitioners, and allied staff where appropriate.
  • Ensure workload is addressed fairly, with prompt action and completion by the end of the working day.
  • Develop care plans in line with current disease‑management protocols.
  • Provide counselling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Record clear consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice formulary or generically as clinically appropriate.
  • Account for all work that carries a private fee – e.g., medical reports, insurance reports, private letters to third parties.
  • Adhere to all relevant practice policies, prescription guidelines, confidentiality, data protection, and health and safety policies.
  • Commit to lifelong learning, audit, and evidence‑based best practice.

Person Specification

Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience using EMIS and Docman.
  • Computer literate with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time‑management ability.
  • Dedicated, adaptable, and solution‑focused.

Qualifications

  • Qualified GP with full GMC registration and licence to practise.
  • On NHS Performance List.
  • Aware of local public health issues.

Experience

  • Previous proven GP practice experience.
  • Understanding of GMS contracting, QOF, and income streams.
  • Interest in a specific chronic disease area (e.g., diabetes) and willingness to lead on this issue.
  • Knowledge of national primary care strategies and implementation ideas.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with limited supervision.
  • Understanding of the pressures faced by GP teams.
