Consultant Physician – General Internal Medicine(Pending RCP Approval)

Overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic General Internal Medicine Consultant with a Specialist Interest to join our dynamic department as part of service expansion. The role will provide high‑quality inpatient and outpatient General Internal Medicine services across the trust, including the University Hospital in Coventry and St Cross Hospital in Rugby. The consultant will also support a specialist service within UHCW and deliver patient care as part of GIM medical cover and on‑call support.

Responsibilities

• Provide a comprehensive General Internal Medicine service to patients in Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond, ensuring compliance with waiting list targets, efficient service delivery, and adherence to risk management and clinical governance principles.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver the service within the trust and in community settings.
• Undertake unselected ward rounds on outlier wards.
• Take responsibility for patients under care and provide a consultation and advisory service to other clinical colleagues within the trust and primary care.
• Participate in the development of GIM treatment protocols, guidelines and enhance knowledge of general medical conditions.
• Participate in the General Medicine on‑call rota and ensure adequate emergency support outside normal working hours.
• Engage in the education and training of medical students, trainee doctors, nursing and other personnel; undergraduate teaching experience is essential.

Qualifications

• Interest and experience in undergraduate teaching, including pre‑clinical and clinical students from WMS.
• Essential to attend and complete identified training, including Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme; full attendance and completion required.
