TB Clinical Nurse Specialist (paediatric/outreach)

This is an exciting new role at our service, and the successful applicant will be working closely with both the TB nursing team and the Paediatric TB doctors managing children with latent TB infection and active TB disease. They will also do some outreach work in the community, finding hard-to-reach patients and helping to do home visits.

Provide specialist nurse led Tuberculosis (TB) services Trust wide to minimise/reduce the impact of TB

Provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets.

The post holder will provide specialist nursing care and support and deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical speciality. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.

In particular, the post holder will provide specialist nursing care and support in the management of children with latent TB infection (LTBI) and active TB disease, and will deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical speciality.

To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.

Main duties of the job

To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the clinical setting and Trust wide.

Co-ordinate and contribute to complex case conferences and incident meetings.

Maintain and promote effective communication both verbally and in writing with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and other Wards or Departments, including formal and informal presentation of information relating to your service.

To demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients/clients, visitors/relatives and colleagues, maintaining good customer relations.

Participate in LNWUH’s organisational development plans to transform the hospital to meet the needs of future; upholding LNWUH Healthcare NHS Trust’s shared values.

Promote the corporate image of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust to all individuals, groups and organisations both within the Trust and to the community at large.

Person Specification

Education and qualification

  • Current registration with NMC
  • Educated to degree level or higher
  • Valid UK driving licence and access to a car
  • Non-medical prescribing (or willing to achieve within 12 months)

Knowledge and experience

  • Previous TB/ID experience at band 6 level
  • Effective IT and communication skills
  • Previous outpatient experience in TB/ID care
  • Ability to prepare, teach, and deliver educational presentations
  • Commitment to providing high quality care
  • Ability to work within the MDT
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously
