Risk & Best Practice Lawyer – Bristol – Qualified Solicitor/Barrister
Location: Bristol
Type of Role: Permanent, Full-time (hybrid working available)
Salary: £55,000 to £75,000 (depending on experience)
A leading national commercial law firm is seeking a Risk & Best Practice Lawyer to join its expanding Risk & Best Practice team in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified solicitor or barrister with strong law firm risk and compliance experience to support the firm’s regulatory, ethical and operational risk framework in a high performing, collaborative environment.
The Role
You will provide specialist advice and support across the firm, including:
- Regulatory & Ethical Advice
- Advising on SRA Standards & Regulations
- Managing conflicts of interest and ethical issues
- Providing GDPR/Data Protection guidance, including DSARs and data breaches
- Advising on AML matters and potential suspicions
- Supporting on wider regulatory areas such as Market Abuse, Bribery Act and ECCTA
- Contractual Terms
- Reviewing and advising on client terms and outside counsel guidelines
- Updating engagement letters and terms of business
- Reviewing supplier contracts
- Claims & Complaints Handling
- Advising on PI claims and circumstances
- Reporting matters to insurers
- Responding to first tier complaints from clients and third parties
- Policies, Procedures & Internal Governance
- Drafting and updating policies and guidance
- Implementing and communicating new procedures
- Supporting internal audit activity and compliance monitoring
- Training & Education
- Delivering training on risk, compliance and regulatory issues
- Providing induction training for new joiners
- Renewals & Registrations
- Assisting with annual PI insurance renewal and practising certificate renewal
- Managing ICO, Companies House and other regulatory registrations
- Supporting ISO audits and Cyber Essentials Plus recertification
Candidate Requirements
- A current practising certificate (England & Wales)
- Strong experience in law firm risk management
- Excellent knowledge of PoCA, Bribery Act, GDPR/DPA, AML Regulations and SRA Standards & Regulations
- Understanding of contractual issues including limitation of liability and UCTA
- Familiarity with negligence principles and insurer reporting requirements
- Strong awareness of ethical duties: client care, conflicts, confidentiality, disclosure, duties to the court, referrals, undertakings
- Awareness of Solicitors Accounts Rules
- Experience with ISO 9001, 27001, 22301 or 14001 (advantageous)
- Calm, professional and commercially aware approach
- Strong communication and presentation skills
