Lead Systems Engineer

Overview

This role suits an experienced engineer with a strong technical background, able to lead a small indirect team to successfully complete large projects independently and to technically lead multiple small projects.

Responsibilities

• Plan engineering tasks, manage internal functions, and generate engineering management plans.
• Engage with customers to ensure solutions meet their expectations and communicate those expectations internally.
• Plan and present engineering design gate reviews, engaging with internal functions such as airworthiness and safety to ensure delivery milestones are met.
• Manage technical risks and opportunities.
• Manage engineering change to ensure system integrity throughout the lifecycle, maintaining traceability of all key design decisions.
• Provide support and guidance in all areas of the product lifecycle.
• Liaise with engineering leadership and programme management teams to ensure adequate resourcing and identify potential capability shortfalls.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in an engineering role with a strong technical background.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to interface with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Self‑motivated and proactive, using technical skills and teamwork to resolve issues.
• Experience of engineering lifecycle and design reviews.
• Experience in technical report writing.
• Comfortable presenting technical content at all levels across the business.
• Indirect or direct management experience.
• Previous engineering sign‑off for documents (not a requirement).
• Experience working with project management in schedule generation (beneficial).
