Job Purpose
Transport waste materials from Leicestershire County Council’s Recycling and Household Waste Sites (RHWS) to disposal locations using Hook Loader HGVs.
Qualifications
- A valid HGV Licence and driver CPC.
- Significant experience driving HGVs in the waste haulage industry, including use of specialist vehicle systems such as hook loader and easy sheet.
- Knowledge of driving legislation, Health and Safety, vehicle movements on waste sites, loading containers, and waste haulage legislation and practice.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that services are delivered for the benefit of the people of Leicestershire.
- Maintain effective partnerships and working relationships with statutory, voluntary, private agencies and communities to promote and meet the Council’s and Department’s services and objectives.
- Deliver activities efficiently and effectively.
- Complete all uplifts and other jobs each day in the most efficient manner.
- Comply with all systems, procedures, or directions given by the Transport Supervisor or the Fleet Manager.
- Ensure due care for assets (vehicles, compactor, bins, site infrastructure) when carrying out the service, minimising incidents, accidents, damage, or costs.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks in line with policy and legislation, and sign the driver handbook.
- Report all defects at the end of the day if considered serviceable, liaising with the supervisor if unsure; major defects to be reported immediately.
- Complete daily sheets and submit them, ensuring all tickets are stapled to the worksheet concerned.
- Ensure Tacho’s are signed for and returned monthly (or driver books).
- Clean up any spillages caused by your actions during service.
- Ensure vehicles have enough fuel for the next working day.
- Keep vehicles clean (inside and out) and presentable at all times.
- Wear uniform at all times and, when needed, wear PPE to perform duties safely in line with Health and Safety requirements.
- Be courteous to customers at all times.
- Highlight any service problems you may be having to your supervisor.
Rate of Pay
£16.00 rising to £16.50.
