Academy Councillor – Volunteer Role

Are you passionate about helping young people thrive and influencing education in your community? Cabot Learning Federation (CLF) invites dedicated volunteers to join our Academy Councils in the Gloucestershire Cluster.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend council meetings (about 5 per year, 2 hours each).
• Champion safeguarding, well‑being and health and safety policies, ensuring statutory training is met.
• Monitor risk and improvement plans, reviewing risk registers, improvement plans and responses to Ofsted/DfE inspections.
• Hold leaders to account for student attainment, attendance and curriculum effectiveness.
• Approve and monitor local policies and procedures.
• Participate in panels for exclusions, complaints and key decisions.
• Provide financial oversight through review of financial plans and resource allocation.
• Assist in senior leadership recruitment and contribute to principal appraisals.
• Advocate for inclusion, supporting disadvantaged pupils and promoting educational equity.
• Act as an ambassador for the academy, its pupils and staff.
• Commit an average time of about 1 hour per week throughout the year.

All volunteers must complete an application, provide references and undergo safeguarding checks, including a DBS.
