Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain the complex infrastructure that powers mission‑critical transmission systems.
- Take ownership of the core networking infrastructure, including a specialized DTM (Dynamic Synchronous Transfer Mode) network, and introduce automation to enhance resilience and performance.
- Assist in developing observability tools; 24/7 monitoring is managed by the Technical Operations Centre.
- Core Routing & Switching:
- Design and operate distributed systems with advanced knowledge of OSPF and BGP.
- Maintain multicast routing to ensure efficient data delivery across broadcast environments.
- DTM Specialisation: Manage and optimise the DTM network to meet the demands of live broadcast.
- Global Telemetry: Refine a global telemetry network for consistent data flow and visibility.
- Plan capacity and advise on hardware/bandwidth upgrades driven by business growth and projects.
- Ensure optimal traffic forwarding and data integrity for high‑availability, scalable systems used for critical live content broadcasting.
- Network Security & Maintenance:
- Implement best practices for access control and protection across the ecosystem.
- Manage firmware upgrades, patching, and warranty across all hardware.
- Perform system hardening to secure mission‑critical transmission paths.
- NetOps & Monitoring Refinement:
- Build and refine monitoring techniques for internal teams.
- Develop observability using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, and Netbox.
- Implement automation with Ansible, Python, and shell scripting.
- Lead the transition from manual workflows to automated NetOps processes.
- Technical Leadership & Collaboration:
- Provide level‑3 troubleshooting and serve as an escalation point.
- Guide and mentor engineering teams on complex projects.
- Assist engineers in learning networking concepts and the Cingularity architecture.
- Lead technical network projects from concept to deployment, meeting schedules and budgets.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of the TCP/IP stack, including OSPF, BGP, and switching protocols.
- Experience securing network infrastructure and managing hardware firmware lifecycles.
- Practical experience with multicast routing in a production environment.
- Proven automation skills using Python and Ansible.
- IPAM/DCIM experience with Netbox.
- Familiarity with modern observability tools such as Grafana, ELK, and InfluxDB.
- Knowledge of SMPTE ST 2110 networks and related timing/synchronisation requirements (advantageous).
- Direct experience with DTM or ATM technologies.
- Version control proficiency with GitHub.
- Understanding of real‑time transport protocols (RTP, UDP, SRT, Zixi) and video encoding (AVC, HEVC, JPEG‑XS).
- Project management experience with tools like ClickUp, Monday.com, or Jira.
- Strong communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
