Personal Assistant Required to Assist An Adult with Physical and Learning Disabilities, To Support Within the Home and Accessing the Community – 12.25 Hours Per Week – Willington – AK-DCC-002.

Job Reference Number: AK-DCC-002

Job Description

A self employed (preferred) PA/Carer to provide consistent support for 12.25 hours on a Sunday, from 8.15am – 8.30pm.

We are looking for a PA who will be kind, caring, sociable, patient, proactive/self motivated, reliable, prompt and will have a good sense of humour. The PA will become a friend and build a relationship to understand the service user’s needs.

The service user requires someone who encourages independent tasks, such as helping with cooking and washing, and who will assist with personal care – toileting, bathing, washing. Maintaining a clean and habitable home is important as the service user cannot do this herself. Additional duties include medication prompting, appointment making and attendance, liaising with professionals such as NHS and social care, promoting visits in and out of the home, continuing physiotherapy exercises, and flexible use of the 12.25 hours as agreed.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support with all personal hygiene including bathing, toileting, teeth brushing, and washing.
  • Dressing and putting on ankle support/compression socks.
  • Assistance with all transfers.
  • Administering medication and keeping the MAR chart up to date.
  • Preparing and cooking all meals and snacks and assisting to support participation.
  • Meal planning, food shopping, labelling of food and stock rotation, supervision of eating & drinking.
  • Household duties including cleaning, laundry, putting out waste/emptying bins.
  • Taking the service user to activities in the village and further afield, such as craft club, church coffee, morning/lunches, church on Sunday.
  • Taking to appointments either in the wheelchair if local or by wheelchair taxi if further afield and advocating if needed.
  • Assisting with activities in the home such as craft, baking, light gardening.
  • Assisting with physiotherapy exercises and supporting therapy if the physiotherapist visits.
  • Continual prompting as the service user tends to forget things quickly, e.g., to chew food slowly.
  • Support making & taking phone calls, sometimes making calls on the service user’s behalf, and basic admin such as sending emails.
  • Maintaining a detailed diary of activities/tasks undertaken.
  • Providing emotional support.

Required Training

  • Moving & handling
  • Personal Care

The PA will need to be available for some initial training ideally during a weekday morning with the current PA to get to know the service user.
