Senior Cloud Engineer – Azure
Global payments are complex and ever‑evolving. At Checkout.com, our Cloud Engineers build the resilient, scalable and secure foundations that enable our merchants to boost their acceptance rates, cut processing costs and fight fraud. We are looking for Senior Cloud Engineers to lead the evolution of our Azure ecosystem, ensuring our infrastructure is as high‑performing and reliable as the code it supports. You’ll be a natural leader, operating independently to deliver high‑impact services and mentoring the next generation of engineers. You’ll work closely with your Engineering Manager to shape the direction, managing dependencies across different pillars and ensuring our systems adhere to the highest standards of the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and the Well‑Architected Framework.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the technical delivery of your atom’s services.
- Lead design and delivery of large‑scale, critical cloud projects.
- Influence technical direction of your Atom and the broader group.
- Act as SME for team‑owned services and ensure high availability.
- Spread best practices, standards and exemplary code.
- Navigate the organization to manage technical dependencies.
- Promote a culture that embodies Checkout Operating Principles.
- Explore and implement AI‑driven automation to enhance infrastructure efficiency and productivity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with at least 5years of experience in an Azure Cloud Engineering or DevOps role.
- Advanced proficiency in designing and managing production‑grade services including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Service Bus, CosmosDB and Azure Functions.
- Expert‑level knowledge of Terraform and the ability to design reusable modules and best practices.
- Deep understanding of enterprise networking, Hub‑and‑Spoke VNet patterns, Azure Front Door, Private Link, Microsoft EntraID, RBAC and Managed Identities.
- Strong experience with CI/CD orchestration (GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps) and focus on observability (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Prometheus/Grafana).
- Leadership and mentorship ability, guiding and mentoring peers.
- Pragmatic problem‑solver, balancing technical debt and speed.
- Data‑driven mindset, using analytics to demonstrate impact.
