Main duties

The Senior Mental Health Practitioner will work within a multi‑disciplinary team (MDT) to provide a specialised occupational mental health service for all Service and entitled personnel with the Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH) and network as required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing timely, high‑quality mental health services to patients referred to the DCMH for assessment and treatment.
  • Delivering psychological therapy in a stepped‑care service, using CBT and other evidence‐based modalities in individual, group and digital formats.
  • Conducting robust clinical assessments and developing occupationally relevant formulation for individuals.
  • Providing highly specialist psychological assessment and interventions to individuals and groups.
  • Clinically supervising other MDT members.
  • Ensuring clinical outcomes are recorded and collated, leading service evaluation, outcome measurement, audit and research projects.
  • Acting as a clinical resource and liaising with Medical Officers/General Practitioners and the chain of command on mental health matters.
  • Delivering training in assessment, formulation and CBT practices to the team.
  • Deputising for the team manager and holding delegated professional management responsibilities as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered mental health practitioner (Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or equivalent) with post‑graduate training and accreditation in NICE‑recognised modalities for common mental disorders.
  • Mandatory accreditation in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and BABCP registration or equivalent.
  • Significant experience as a psychological therapy practitioner in a stepped‑care service.
  • Experience in clinical leadership and quality improvement programmes.
  • Training and experience in supervision for CBT and other psychological therapies (e.g. EMDR, IPT, DIT).
  • Experience working with military personnel is desirable.
