The renal cancer team is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Band 8a Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) nurse to work with their dynamic progressive team. The service is based at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Wirral although some clinical commitments will be between our other site in Liverpool.
The successful applicant must be motivated and enthusiastic about the specialist care needs of this patient group. They should be able to demonstrate advanced communication skills, organisational and multi-tasking skills and have the ability to prioritise effectively and efficiently in a busy and fast paced working environment. The successful applicant must demonstrate an ability to support, teach, develop and educate others and possess good leadership skills. They should be able to work autonomously and as part of a strong multidisciplinary team in order to maintain and deliver a high quality of care.
Trainee ACPs in their last 8 weeks of training CAN apply for this role.

They will:
- Practice autonomously with a high level of accountability at an advanced clinical level in the direct delivery of high quality care, making critical clinical decisions based on advanced clinical skills assessment, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice. They will order investigations and prescribe medications within the capacity of non‑medical prescribing. Plan and manage complete episodes of care, working in partnership with others and delegating and referring as appropriate to optimise health outcomes and resource use, as well as providing direct support to patients and clients.
- Advocate and contribute to the development of an organisational culture that supports continuous learning and development, evidence‑based practice and succession planning.
- Provide clear leadership and direction to support both the medical and nursing teams acting as a role model for the Trust, presenting a positive image to patients and staff.
- Act as a clinical leader, exercising freedom and authority to act and accept the responsibility and accountability for those actions.
- Critically engage in research activity, adhering to good research practice guidance, so that evidence‑based strategies are developed and applied to enhance quality, safety, productivity and value for money.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Current registration with a relevant professional body
- MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice/Advanced Clinical Practice
- Non‑medical prescribing qualification with portfolio supporting attainment of competency
- Post‑basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or relevant subject
- Recognised Leadership Qualification
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Advanced Communications Skills Training
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Advanced Life Support qualification. (only ANP/ACP’s who participate in MET cover)
- IO needle insertion (Only ANP’s who participate in MET cover)
- Research Qualification
- Psychological skills training Level 2 training or above
Knowledge and Expertise
- Highly motivated and experienced practitioner with substantive range of experience within cancer care
- Broad and advanced knowledge of pathophysiology
- Sound level of knowledge in relation to invasive and non invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Knowledge of national standards, policies and working knowledge of clinical governance
- Understanding of evidence based practice and ability to critically appraise and implement research findings into practice.
- In‑depth specialist experience within specialist field
- Has the knowledge to support safe clinical decision making in relation to admission and discharge
- Extensive knowledge of clinical practice and oncology treatments including treatment induced side‑effects
Experience
- Experience of writing policies and procedures
- Proven leadership experience including delivering to targets, change initiatives and service improvement
- Leadership and mentoring skills to energise the team and motivate individuals
- Extensive post registration experience with recent experience at a senior level
- Working autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary Team.
- Experience of participation in research and audit
- Ability to influence and develop clinical services
- Demonstrates current knowledge of professional and NHS issues and the implication for clinical environment
- Enthusiasm and drive to improve practice through education and training
- Committed to continuing professional development of self and others
