Overview

Provide a specialist psychology service to adult mental health clients both inpatient and community, acting as the continuity link between ward and community. Deliver psychological assessment, formulation, therapy and advice to colleagues and carers within the existing framework of team policies and procedures.

Employment Details

Split post: 18.75 hours at Erith Centre and 18.75 hours at Woodlands Unit Queen Mary’s Hospital (two part‑time roles).Contract type: Fixed‑term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the provision of psychology therapy services on the Bexley Psychosis Pathway and Acute Inpatient Wards.
  • Provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations and interventions to clients referred to the ICMP Community Mental Health Service and Acute Inpatient Wards, liaising with families and other professionals.
  • Implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, including NICE‑approved CBT‑p and Family Interventions for Psychosis.
  • Deliver therapy and interventions while maintaining high standards of clinical record keeping and compliance with the British Psychological Society, Health Professions Council and Trust policies.
  • Advise and consult with non‑psychologist colleagues, providing expert guidance on diagnostic and treatment planning.
  • Support the multidisciplinary team by ensuring a psychologically informed framework for all settings where service‑user care decisions are made.
  • Carry out risk assessment and risk management for clients, providing guidance to other professionals on safeguarding and complex risk factors.
  • Communicate complex information in a clear and sensitive manner to clients, families and colleagues.

Management Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the overall management and functioning of the service.
  • Participate in staff recruitment.
  • Develop and monitor operational policies and services, using research, evaluation and audit.
  • Advise on service and professional matters requiring psychological or organisational input.
  • Manage the workload of assistant and trainee clinical psychologists within the team’s policies.

Leadership

  • Accountable to the Psychology Lead / Mental Health Team Manager.
  • Develop and support junior psychological therapy staff.
  • Participate in service development.

Teaching, Training and Supervision

  • Provide clinical placements for trainee clinical and/or counselling psychologists, ensuring the acquisition of required competencies.
  • Offer training, supervision and consultation to staff to improve psychological intervention delivery.
  • Maintain own professional training and supervision in line with registration requirements.

General

  • Maintain registration as a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or BACP member.
  • Keep up to date with legislation, national and local policies and current developments in clinical psychology.
  • Participate in internal and external CPD training and development programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with equal opportunities, health and safety and information confidentiality policies.

Research

  • Apply evidence‑based research to practice.
  • Undertake and advise on service evaluation, audit and project management.

Communication

  • Maintain professional clinical records, including electronic data entry and report writing.
  • Use Microsoft Office for clinical and training materials.

On‑Call / Unsocial Hours

  • The post does not require unsocial hours.

  • This is not an exhaustive list; other duties may be assigned in discussion with management.
  • Contract term is fixed‑term, beginning August 2026, with potential flexibility to shape service provision during the redesign of the ICMP team.
