Job overview
As part of a rapidly expanding service an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Nurse has arisen to join our Respiratory Care team. Working as part of our highly effective Multidisciplinary team across both hospital sites the post holder will support the team to provide a seamless service for people with a wide range of Respiratory diseases including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Asthma, pleural and Interstitial lung diseases. Working across all aspects of care delivery in both the acute setting and outpatient clinics the post holder will deliver a wide range of services and support continued improvements and developments in respiratory care for patients.
The successful candidate must be capable of working autonomously to provide evidence based interventions to patients, demonstrating expert clinical skills and knowledge whilst promoting patient focused care. You will need to be a highly motivated individual with good interdisciplinary team‑working skills. Excellent communication skills are essential to provide professional specialist clinical support and education to medical and nursing staff in relation to respiratory disorders. The post holder must be able to initiate and undertake clinical audit and utilise an agreed service plan.
Whilst we are looking for an experienced registered nurse, applicants with less experience would be encouraged as a developmental post and appropriate clinical support or training would be provided.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the Respiratory Team the post holder will provide a quality specialist service to respiratory patients based on researched clinical practice. He/she will act as specialist nurse to patients with chronic lung disease and a specialist resource to both primary and secondary care services contributing to the development of strategic plans and policies for services aimed at patients with chronic lung diseases.

- Be a full member of the Respiratory Specialist Multidisciplinary Team.
- Be recognised as an expert in their field holding additional specialist knowledge and experience.
- Provide leadership in clinical practice for the professional team and peers, and ensuring effective learning experience for students through provision of an educational environment working as a competent, autonomous clinical nurse specialist.
- Contribute to the provision of an effective respiratory nurse specialist service ensuring delivery that is sensitive to patient need, innovative and meets defined standards.
- Work closely with the Respiratory team, ensuring maximum effectiveness in helping to plan and develop future services.

Person specification
- First level registration Evidence of post registration education. Previous experience in a Respiratory nurse specialist role.
- 1 st level Degree or working towards a 1 st level Degree. Non medical prescriber registration.
Experience
- Minimum 3-4 years post registration experience. Highly developed clinical skills with the respiratory specialty. In depth knowledge & experience of working in respiratory care and specifically chronic obstructive airways disease and asthma.
- Teaching experience. Experience in Change management.
Skills and knowledge
- Demonstrate a good knowledge of respiratory care. Ability to work in multi professional setting. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Good written and verbal presentation skills. Good prioritising and organisational skills.
- Autonomous working. Supervising junior members of a team.
