Specialty Doctor – CAMHS Recovery and Support Pathway

We are recruiting a full‑time Specialty Doctor to join our CAMHS Recovery and Support Pathway in Buckinghamshire, a service that has recently been redesigned to better meet the evolving mental health needs of the local population.

CAMHS Recovery and Support Pathway is a multidisciplinary service for children and young people from 0‑17 presenting with moderate to severe mental health conditions, including depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive‑compulsive disorder, post‑traumatic stress disorder, somatic syndromes, and attachment disorders.

Working within the Focussed Intervention and Recovery Support (FIRS) and Specialist Intervention and Recovery Support (SIRS) teams, you will contribute to a flexible, needs‑led pathway where young people can move fluidly between services as their needs change. This structure allows clinicians to provide both targeted, evidence‑based interventions and longer‑term, integrated care for those requiring more intensive multidisciplinary support.

We are looking for candidates who have full GMC registration, at least 4 years post‑graduate training with at least 2 in the relevant specialty and held hospital appointments in psychiatry at CT level or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

  • The diagnosis, management and treatment of children, adolescents and families with common mental health conditions. This will involve taking part in assessments, medical reviews, as well as liaison with GPs, schools and social care. This will be under the clinical supervision of the consultants in the team. Clinical Supervision will be from Dr Simone Forlee (or other consultants as required).
  • Providing timely written correspondence to relevant professionals documenting assessments, ongoing management and progress using Trust IT and clinical records system – training will be provided where needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams and agencies to ensure smooth and timely transfer into and out of the service. This will include developing close working relationships with staff from other pathways within Buckinghamshire CAMHS, as well as linking with GPs, schools and social care.
  • Contribution to developing and delivering improved clinical services as outlined in the National Service Framework for Mental Health.
  • Contribute to the collection of data as required by the Trust and other relevant agencies. This includes the timely recording of clinical activity data, and participation in clinical audit – with appropriate administrative support.
  • Participate in the Buckinghamshire CAMHS medical day duty rota on a regular basis.
  • Cross‑cover with other medical staff for annual leave, study leave and brief periods of sickness absence.

Job responsibilities

Focussed Intervention and Recovery Support (FIRS) and Specialist Intervention and Recovery Support (SIRS) The FIRS and SIRS teams provide support for young people who are experiencing a moderate to severe mental health condition such as depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. They were previously combined in one large Getting More Help Pathway but as the service recognised this covered a wide range of needs, the pathway has been redesigned to separate out those young people who can benefit from evidence‑based focussed interventions, and those who require longer‑term interventions, may require a more intensive approach to safety planning, or complex multidisciplinary or multi‑agency support.

  • FIRS offers a range of psychological interventions and psychiatric management focussed on a specific condition, for example medications and CBT for OCD, or EMDR for PTSD.
  • SIRS offers more integrated multidisciplinary interventions and can offer systemic therapy and psychotherapy where appropriate. The aim is that young people can move fluidly between the teams depending on the complexity of their needs.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Registration

  • Some or all parts of MRCPsych or equivalent

Training

  • Completed at least four years’ full‑time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part‑time or flexible basis) with at least two years in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed‑term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Attendance at MRCPsych course or equivalent Section 12(2) approval: Mental Health Act, 1983.

Clinical Experience

  • Held hospital appointments in psychiatry at CT or equivalent.
  • Experience at ST or SD level or equivalent.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£63,696 to £102,689 per annum (pro rata)
