The Chelsea Wing at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Sister/Charge Nurse to join their fantastic team.
This role is ideal for a UK registered nurse with a minimum of three years’ acute hospital setting experience, who is committed to delivering exceptional, patient‑centred care in a unique private patient setting while enjoying the benefits of NHS employment, including a pension scheme and access to training and development opportunities.
The Sister/Charge Nurse will play a vital leadership role, ensuring outstanding care for patients and supporting the dedicated nursing team across both the inpatient Chelsea Wing and the outpatient Westminster Wing.

Responsibilities
- Lead shifts in both inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring the highest standards of patient care
- Oversee daily ward management and staff, providing clinical leadership and efficient use of resources
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members to deliver evidence‑led care
- Act as a role model, promoting clinical excellence and compassionate care
- Assist in staffing, resource and equipment management to meet service demands
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior colleagues, fostering professional development
- Enhance patient and customer satisfaction through a commitment to service quality
- Promote a safe clinical environment for patients, visitors and staff
- Support local and trust initiatives for continuous improvement of service quality and safeguarding
- Ensure adherence to all hospital policies and procedures and collaborative practice
- Help foster a supportive working environment and maintain staff morale
- Model and adhere to the standards outlined in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
- Show flexibility to work shift patterns as required
- Work weekends and multiple sites as needed
- Employ assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualized patient care using appropriate frameworks
- Maintain smooth operation of outpatient clinics, including phlebotomy, minor procedures and chaperoning
- Use clinical standards to monitor quality of care, ensuring nursing practice meets Trust and CQC standards
- Safely supply and administer medication in line with Trust medicine policy
- Support patients in medication adherence and health promotion
- Educate patients and significant others as required
- Initiate actions in collaboration with multidisciplinary team when care requires improvement
- Review effectiveness of nursing care and take required actions
- Carry out reasonable and relevant clinical or non‑clinical functions commensurate with band level
- Recognise and act on situations detrimental to health and well‑being
- Coordinate and support other team members in specific nursing care aspects
- Investigate and report accidents, incidents and losses, providing initial support to staff or patients
- Take on additional duties/responsibilities as delegated by senior staff within capability limits
- Maintain professional behaviour and promote a positive image of the Trust
- Contribute to a safe working environment with excellent patient care standards
- Participate in setting standards for nursing practice and multi‑disciplinary team care
- Ensure safe working environment recognising health and safety requirements for patients, visitors and staff
- Implement and monitor infection control strategies, policies and protocols
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with the Data Protection Act
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation in line with unit and Trust standards
- Be aware of Clinical Governance impact on patient care
- Understand local audit processes and participate in Trust audits
- Manage adequate stock levels and maintain an effective approach
- Implement a quality approach to service provision in line with Trust standards
- Actively participate in incident reporting and investigation to promote learning from incidents
- Develop personal professional development, maintain current clinical skills and complete mandatory training
- Stay aware of nursing profession and NHS developments
- Participate in team and ward meetings, research projects and clinical audits
- Assist in ongoing development of a positive learning environment for the ward
- Ensure appraisal and personal development plan are current
- Provide knowledge and feedback to learners and HCAS/MSW’s as required
- Participate in local teaching sessions
- Manage a group of patients and supervise work of junior members
- Supervise more junior staff and assist with induction and orientation of new, agency and bank staff
- Teach and educate pre‑ and post‑registration students as a preceptor or mentor when appropriate
- Demonstrate leadership and teaching skills in supervising junior staff and students
- Supervise junior staff in practice of new skills, demonstrating procedures
- Assist in resource management, considering cost implications in the clinical area
- Use Trust values in all working relationships with patients, carers and staff
- Demonstrate effective communication between patient, relatives and multidisciplinary team, ensuring appropriate nursing input in care discussions
- Use clinical incident reporting appropriately where needed
- Communicate handover of care professionally
- Demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity to build good customer relations, recognising patient individuality and rights
- Work cohesively with ward team to provide optimal patient services
- Work effectively within a multi‑racial and cultural environment
- Manage communication that is complex, contentious or sensitive in a responsive and inclusive manner, focusing on improvement and progression
- Present communication appropriately to different recipients, considering level of understanding, type of communication and potential barriers
