Site: Ardenleigh Town Birmingham. Salary: £66,582 – £77,368 per annum, pro rata.

Job Overview

8b Practitioner Psychologist – Ardenleigh Women’s Secure Blended Service (WSBS). Fixed term contract/secondment opportunity to 31st March 2027 (with possibility of extending beyond this date). The WSBS offers an innovative blended security model. The role involves providing specialist psychological consultation and interventions across outreach and inpatient services to women presenting with complex trauma and personality disorder.

Main Duties

  • Provide specialist input to the inpatient service and delivery of the Outreach provision.
  • Offer specialist advice and support to promote timely discharge.
  • Maintain a substantial leadership role, providing management and clinical supervision to members of the team.
  • Contribute to a culture of psychological safety and staff wellbeing.
  • Develop and deliver specialist psychological interventions for women and high‑risk behaviours.

Qualifications

  • Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in clinical psychology (Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent).
  • Eligibility for entry onto the Register of Chartered Psychologists.
  • Additional training in DBT, at a minimum 5‑day intensive training.
  • Post‑doctoral training in one or more highly specialist areas of psychological practice/therapy.
  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical/forensic psychologist for at least 4 years post‑qualification, with a minimum of 2 years at the senior (highly specialist) level.
  • Experience working with a wide variety of client groups across the lifespan and a spectrum of presenting problems.
  • Experience applying clinical psychology in different cultural contexts and with ‘hard‑to‑reach’ community groups.
  • Experience in safeguarding and risk management across multiple agencies.
  • Highly developed theoretical and practical knowledge of the field of clinical psychology.
  • Skill in providing consultation and advice from a psychological perspective to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Awareness of differential needs of BAME groups and of service issues in a multicultural urban area.
  • In‑depth knowledge of information governance legislation and information sharing practices across agencies.
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines.
  • Capacity to tolerate frustration, change and high demand, working effectively under pressure.
  • Willing and eligible to apply for higher level security clearance.

Additional Requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
