Nurse Assessor (RGN / RMN / RNLD) – Lewes (Hybrid)

Salary: £45,300 to £48,000 per year plus bonus.

Monday to Friday, office hours (no nights or weekends).

About the role

We are recruiting registered Nurses (RGN, RMN and RNLD) to work as Functional Assessors, delivering Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services based in Lewes. This role provides an alternative to hands‑on clinical work, with a structured environment and a predictable working pattern. The focus is on carrying out assessments and producing written reports, rather than providing treatment or direct patient care.

Key details

  • Location: Lewes assessment centre
  • Working pattern: Monday to Friday, office hours only
  • Hybrid working: A mixture of working from home and in the local office
  • No shift work, nights or weekends
  • Full‑time and part‑time roles available
  • Right to work in the UK required (sponsorship not available)

Training

All roles require completion of a full‑time training programme. This is a minimum of 9 weeks but may be longer depending on individual progress or any periods of absence.

The role

You will carry out structured functional assessments for individuals applying for PIP or undergoing Work Capability Assessments. The focus is on understanding how a person’s health condition affects their day‑to‑day activities and ability to work.

Assessment methods

  • Telephone
  • Video consultation
  • Face‑to‑face appointments (non‑clinical setting)

Typical workload

  • PIP: around 3 assessments per day
  • WCA: around 4 to 6 assessments per day

Responsibilities

  • Carry out structured assessments using clinical judgement
  • Review medical evidence and supporting documentation
  • Produce clear, objective written reports
  • Communicate professionally and sensitively with individuals being assessed

This role does not involve

  • Providing hands‑on care
  • Diagnosing conditions
  • Prescribing or delivering treatment
  • Making benefit entitlement decisions
  • Working nights, weekends or shifts

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RGN, RMN or RNLD) with a valid NMC registration
  • Minimum 12 months post‑registration clinical experience
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable using IT systems
  • Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not available.
